The 49ers are promoting Brandin Cooks to the active roster amid their WR injury crisis. Cooks is just 189 yards shy of 10,000 career receiving yards. San Francisco released KhaDarel Hodge, who has been dealing with a knee injury.

The Giants have several names in the mix to replace Mike Krukow, including Hunter Pence, Javier López, Shawn Estes and Will Clark. But the harder part is preserving the feeling of Kruk & Kuip. López said their broadcasts felt like “you’re on a couch or at a bar having a conversation.”

Steve Young once coached girls basketball at Menlo during the 1987 NFL strike. Decades later, he’s helping grow girls flag football at the school. Former 49er Anthony Dixon is supporting the movement too. A pretty cool bridge between 49ers history and the next generation.

49ers G Connor Colby's mullet was famous enough in Cedar Rapids that newspapers wrote headlines about it when he signed with Iowa. He became Iowa's first true freshman OL starter in 4 years, then had the same "thrown in unexpectedly" moment as a 49ers rookie next to Trent Williams.

Dylan Raiola’s USC breakout looks even more impressive: he was texting Dan Lanning film observations all week despite not expecting to play. After Dante Moore went down, Raiola threw for 289 yards and 2 TDs. Oregon’s QB depth looks like a strength.

George Kittle’s 243-day Achilles comeback was built on relentless, often boring work. His rehab included strength testing and blood-flow training. At Bandon Dunes in Oregon, he even rehabbed while friends played golf. Now he’s back—and producing at an elite level.

A new Giants debate is taking shape: push for 2027 or build toward 2028? John Shea argues San Francisco should use 2027 to develop young players and target contention in 2028. Posey disagrees, saying he believes the Giants can contend next year.

000

San Francisco’s offense is doing something we haven’t seen since 2000: 13 touchdowns on 27 drives through three games, a 48.1% TD rate. That’s the best three-game rate in the NFL since 2000. Brock Purdy’s MVP case is getting harder to ignore.

000

000

The 49ers’ defensive line is moving from survival mode toward a reset. Mykel Williams opens his practice window Wednesday, Romello Height is expected back, and Matthew Judon starts individual work. Nick Bosa will miss Denver, so the reinforcements can’t come soon enough.

49ers T Colton McKivitz has a mural in his Ohio hometown, and his dad is known for wearing the same hat to every WVU home game. His own draft call came during COVID — alone on a couch in Arizona, no family, no celebration. He's since started 51 straight games at RT.

49ers-Seahawks is getting the national spotlight in Week 5. The NFC West rivals were moved into FOX’s featured late Sunday window, with San Francisco entering 3-0 and Seattle 2-1. It adds another layer to a rivalry with real Pacific Northwest stakes.

000

Kyle Shanahan just reached a remarkable 49ers milestone: 166 games coached, tying Hall of Famer Bill Walsh for the most in franchise history. It happened in Sunday’s 36-30 win over Arizona. Shanahan’s reaction? The number mostly made him realize “how old I’ve gotten.”

000

One subtle Warriors camp storyline: LJ Cryer is expected to start the season on Golden State’s active roster. With Butler and Moody rehabbing, his defensive growth could determine whether he becomes a real early-season depth piece.

001

Oregon’s Dierre Hill Jr. and Jamari Johnson both earned national Player of the Week honors after the USC win. They became just the second Ducks RB-TE duo since 1996 to each top 100 receiving yards in the same game.

Jack Smith is going to help flip so many states for the upcoming midterms.

Matt Rhule called former Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola an “elite quarterback” after Raiola stepped in for Oregon vs. USC and threw for 289 yards and two TDs. Nebraska visits Eugene Oct. 17, creating a potential reunion game if Raiola keeps starting.
