Lugged the Macro lens outside. Decided to try and catch a photo of some of the bees that were all over this bush. At least 3 different species, this was one of the small ones. #Photograhy #Bees #Macro #flowers

Death Valley in July is really something. 119 at Stovepipe Wells today. The heat is almost beyond comprehension. They have pot holders on door handles because the metal gets so hot.

Obligatory Holiday meat smoking. Overnight sous vide for 16 hours (lazy short cut) followed by several hours for a smoke ring. Vibes are different this year, esp compared to Bicentennial. Hoping we can start living up to our best ideals because it feels like they are slipping away.

Finally got a chance to smell the corpse flower in person. It was a lovely day to spend 3 hours in line to see, and smell, the Corpse Flower at the U of Rhode Island.

We recently invested in a set of jars with labels for side and top. We are temporarily living where we can only have one drawer handy. This is what we did. Also the ADHD brain of the person who put the labels on means some read top to bottom and others bottom to top. Also half-heartedly sorted.

This quote explains so much.
Picture of Historian Heather Cox Richardson with the quote "Appointing unqualified figures is a key tactic of authoritarians, who turn to staffers who are fiercely loyal because they are not qualified or talented enough to rise to power in a non-partisan system. They recognize that without the leader who elevated them, they will never again be in power - and sometimes will be in prison - so they will cleave to him to the end."

So much snow here in Rhode Island. 32+ inches. It just kept coming all day. Took me 3+ hours to dig out the cars and another 2 inches dropped while I was shoveling.

For the record I miss snow days. 17"+ of snow and I still have hours of meetings because the other attendees don't have as much, or any snow. The upside of all that snow is after I finish digging out this evening I won't need a separate workout.

Peanut oil acquired. I've been frying a turkey every Thanksgiving since 2000. This year I had to switch to 1-gallon containers because the price per oz was significantly cheaper than the 3-gallon container. Not sure why but I'm ready and that's one more item off the T-Day checklist.

Recently visited the USS Bullhead Memorial in Albuquerque. Wasn't expecting to find a Submarine memorial in New Mexico but I stopped by to acknowledge and honor those Submariners lost at Sea. While the plaque is looking a little worse for the wear, the torpedoes were very pretty. #Submarines
