On way to Labour conference in Liverpool. Prime Minister is right: people’s concerns about immigration deserve serious answers. We need effective border control alongside a fair route to settlement, a meaningful path to citizenship and a real plan for integration.

Good migration policy needs more than statistics and slogans. It needs the first-hand knowledge of people who have navigated the system themselves. Lived experience does not replace evidence: it reveals what the data can miss and helps turn policy into something that works.

Universities should do more than transmit knowledge. They should build belonging, develop future leaders & earn public trust. My ambition for Collingwood is to unite intellectual curiosity, opportunity and public purpose equipping students to make a difference far beyond college.

Progressives won't defeat populism with a paler version of the same politics. On immigration, we need a confident alternative: fair rules, real contribution, shared values and a country prepared to welcome those who make it their home. Belonging is not a waiting room.

Honoured that the Lords Justice and Home Affairs Committee drew on my evidence in its settlement and citizenship report. The real reward is watching better immigration policy take shape, one recommendation at a time.

International students make an enormous contribution to Britain. I was one once. A credible immigration system and a world-leading university sector aren’t competing ambitions. Good policy should deliver both.

Academic integrity is the foundation of trust. Cut corners on research integrity, and you cut at the credibility of every finding that follows. Institutions must model what they preach.

A new PM whose central theme of 'belonging, place, "common cause"' is exactly where UK policy needs to go. The Lords' report on Settlement, Citizenship and Integration has already mapped the route. Ten years on from the referendum, a real opportunity to get this right.
