There are now so many "backends" for {dplyr}—duckdb with {duckplyr}, polars with {tidypolars}, various database engines with {dbplyr}, {data.table} with {dtplyr}. Is there a blog post or flow chart somewhere with pros and cons of each? Like, comparisons of memory requirements, speed, and how […]

I’m grabbing a database snapshot now to figure out exactly what the relay has stuffed into the database, but figured I would ask in parallel: Is this the expected behaviour? If it is, what is this setting there for? If the relay isn’t filling up the “status” table… what is it filling up? Is it […]

#bldrweb - gotten a few upgrades and improvements implemented, but I think there's still an issue with the email. Still working on things.

Hey again #bldrweb - I'm going to run an upgrade today to see if that fixes anything. TBD on how long this will take.

Hey #bldrweb - Seems our Mastodon server is not sending out emails (new accounts, password resets, missed notifications, etc.). I'm working on the issue, but it's a tricky one, so I'm not sure how long it'll take to resolve. Please DM or email me (thomas@bldrweb.org) if you run into issues.

Do you know of any #rstats teams who could use some help in 2025? I'm a freelance consultant with 10yrs of experience in #DataSci, #DataEng, #DataOps, and providing #SysAdmin for related tools. I primarily work with R, but I have enough SQL and Python knowledge to get by. I know my way around […]

Reminder: Down-ballot contests matter. There's so much attention paid to "swing states" and the presidential race that people outside those states sometimes wonder if there's any point in voting. Yes there is! Ther House and Senate seats are often tightly contested even if a state's electoral […]

Flying to #Portland, #Maine today. We'll have to wait about 3.5h before our travel companions arrive. The rental car is in their name. Looking for suggestions for things to do with the time. I *think* we need to be back at the airport when they arrive so we can be added as drivers on the rental.

Ducked(!) out early from the #tidyverse dev day so I could catch part of the #duckdb DuckCon. The #rstats world will always have my heart, but the duck-theme ecosystem is very attractive! (Luckily there's no need to choose).

Hey #bldrweb 🚨 - I'm going to take the server offline sometime in the next 30min or so to do some upgrades. I'm hoping this will be ~1h downtime. Fear not - we have a more recent backup this time around, so data loss should be pretty unlikely!
