And the mystical ending looks like it’s going for something similar to “2001” but with nowhere near the subtlety. And yet this movie is TREMENDOUSLY engaging because of the gorgeous Victorian ship the Cygnus, the amazing score, and an overall mood of dread. Flaws aside, it’s a great movie!

No doubt it’s a movie with problems. The small robots are too Disney. The part where the hull is ripped open and they’re not all sucked out into space is impossible. Ernest Borgnine’s and Anthony Perkins’ performances seem oddly stilted.
