Temperature here in coastal San Diego North County is 95°F, which is way hotter than it has been since I’ve lived here. Not exactly a silver lining but the sunrises are smoking hot too!

My sharp, adorable and generous sweetheart became my wife on this day, 45 years ago. She’s been my partner and teacher in everything for all this time through good times and bad times, smiling through it all. Hoping for many more years to come!

Seaside daisy is great and I have plenty blooming now but they aren’t hyperlocal in my area. For summer blooms Orcutt’s hazardia is great but my favorite is Isocoma menziesii because it is big and green all year long AND it blooms late summer through fall. It’s sometimes 6’ tall and full of blooms!

Because our main local plant community is dominated by coastal sage scrub I have California buckwheat growing in abundance. It is another powerful native bee magnet and a keystone species. Honeybees love it too!

I agree. Also, grow Native plants to feed native bees. This is a shot of Hazardia orcuttii, which is a rare endemic that only grows in one spot in the US, which happens to be in my neighborhood. Native longhorn bees swarm around it when it’s in bloom. Please grow native plants for our native bees.

🌱 Interspecies cooperation? Savia apiana (white sage) is a sacred local native plant to indigenous peoples. It produces many flowers for the pollinators and lots of seeds for native birds. Another local plant (false bindweed, Calystegia macrostegia) is able to reinforce the long flower stalks!
