Real Earnings for August 2026: slight decline from July; over the year, real hourly earnings are flat. Whatever gains there have been in nominal terms have been wiped out by inflation. #EconSky #Earnings #Winning
Chart 1 from the Real Earnings August 2026 release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It shows monthly changes in real average hourly earnings, seasonally adjusted for the period between August 2025 and August 2026, except for October and November 2025, which were not collected due to the government shutdown. Most months negative with the exceptions of January, June and July of this year.

Happy to be joined by @karthikmanickam.bsky.social, Patricia Sanchez Perez, and Fabiana Ciccarella for our panel "Gender Disparities in Income, Wealth, Savings and Pensions" at the @iaffe.bsky.social Conference in Cali. I presented our work in progress on gender differentials in retirement income.

This Rose Breasted Grosbeak sang us a good morning tune at the Chittenango Creek boardwalk
Bird with a white belly, red breast, black head and large beak perched on a bare tree branch with a pine tree and blue sky in the background.
