The Hiroshima Carp announced that they've informed infielders Kaito Kozono (26), last season's Central League batting champion, and Masaya Yano (27), who won the Golden Glove Award as a shortstop in 2024, that they will not be offered contracts for next season. Kozono also played in the WBC.

Isao Harimoto recorded 3,085 hits in his NPB career. No one else has ever reached 3,000. He also survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, faced discrimination his whole life as a Korean in Japan, and did it all with a right hand that barely worked.

A few players have hit 30+ home runs in a season in both MLB and NPB: Hideki Matsui, Munetaka Murakami, Cecil Fielder, Bob Horner, and others. Franmil Reyes is the only one to do it multiple times in each league.

New weekly NPB recap is up. Haruto Takahashi improved to 10-0 at the same ballpark where, 7 years ago, he gave up six runs in four innings, forgot to cover first base, and cried after the game. He also got called for his first career balk. It went straight into the folder marked “things to fix.”

The Saitama Seibu Lions just won interleague play for the first time in history, going 14-3-1 for the best winning percentage ever. The MVP is Shinya Hasegawa, a former development-contract player who hit .367 and went headfirst into first base to secure the batting title. New recap is up.

His high school coach called him an alien. He played every game for five seasons in a row and won the batting title in all five of them. He made front-page news when he finally struck out for the first time in more than 200 plate appearances. There's never been anybody like Ichiro.

The Saitama Seibu Lions just climbed to first place in the Pacific League for the first time in 768 days, powered by a backup outfielder who hit a pinch-hit go-ahead homer and laid down a squeeze bunt in the same game. All six PL teams are within 5.5 games of each other. Full weekly recap is up.

There is a list of every Central League pennant winner since 1950. The first name on it is the Shochiku Robins. They won it once, never again, and depending on how you define these things, no longer exist at all. I wrote about them for this month's paid post.

Three of Japan’s best players went down in three days. A pitcher hit his own go-ahead RBI single, got a drink of water during the replay review, and said afterward he was just thirsty. Orix won their eleventh straight at home. Kaima Taira has a 0.49 ERA after 5 starts. Last week in NPB was wild.

Hiromitsu Ochiai said spirit and effort were words he absolutely could not stand. He said he played baseball only for the money. He said ten swings was all he needed before a game. He also won the Triple Crown three times. No one else in Japanese baseball history has done it more than twice.
