Really cool to see this work now featured in National Geographic! 🧠🦠 I also got to answer some questions about our study and the gut–brain axis, which was really fun :) www.nationalgeographic.com/health/artic...

Why Some People Are Better at Handling Stress
New research links a more diverse gut microbiome with a stronger, potentially more adaptive response to short-term stress—but it’s only one part of the resilience puzzle.

In our new study at @univie.ac.at , gut microbiome composition was linked to stress reactivity. Higher microbial diversity and inferred butyrate-producing capacity were associated with stronger cortisol reactivity, which may reflect a more adaptive response. 🧠🦠

Happy to share that my first PhD paper @univie.ac.at is now out in Neurobiology of Stress! 🎉 With @isabellacwagner.bsky.social, @davidberry1.bsky.social & Paul Forbes, we investigated how the gut microbiome is linked to acute stress reactivity in humans🦠🧠 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Gut microbial diversity and inferred capacity to produce short-chain fatty acids are associated with acute stress reactivity in healthy adults
Acute stress triggers the release of stress hormones such as cortisol, increasing stress reactivity and aiding post-stress recovery. Rodent studies re…
