I just remembered how much I miss Screen Beans
Clip art of two screen beans, they are black silhouettes of cartoon characters, their heads look like beans a bit I guess?

That's insane, it made the front page of at least two Dutch newspapers!

Been having a lot of fun with #PicoCAD2. It's easier for slightly more complex models and the animation tools are a really cool addition!

Just spotted this, steam thinks you're temporarily giving a lower discount? 😂 Regardless, I hadn't spotted the upgrade discount, very kind and a good final reason to get it now.

Hell yeah :D For me, I was looking to "degoogle" and this was a big plus, because I had already cancelled my Spotify and was still looking for something handier than manual syncs, I didn't like syncing my whole library to my phone especially. My instance has grown quite a bit hahah

I'm a big fan of using Dutch in software, but I really cannot get used to localised game engines, especially when the first word you see is "wortelknoop" which translates to "carrot knot" #gamedev #godotengine

My favourite game of this year was The Roottrees are Dead (@roottrees.com), and I'm surprised I haven't heard more people talk about it! Their use of diegetic tools to take notes and browse sources is amazing. I would love more like this, especially in a to-the-point form factor like this.
Steam screenshot of The Roottrees are Dead, showing a corkboard with a family tree, but without names, pictures and occupation. The instruction on the screen says "complete the family tree of the Roottree Sisters", and has information on how family trees work, as well as a to-do list.

Haha, damn! Interesting experiment though. I have a 25 min timer for Bluesky 🙃 but I'm pretty OK about it. Though perhaps that's because I know the timer exists. Perhaps I would go wild without it too 😬 Instagram I deleted a few years ago.

And lastly, I played Pocketwatch Games' Monaco 2, which was a real treat. I was a bit on the fence about the new perspective and style, but it has really maintained the charm that I love from the first game. The first missions are pretty basic but the third one already shows a great chaotic sandbox!
My own screenshot of Monaco 2 showing the planning stage. A 3D building in a blueprint palette takes up most of the screen, with cursors for each of the players. On the top left are the names of our crew, and there is a description of the mission "Yacht Club" in the corner. The blueprint shows the locations of objectives, locked doors and coins to collect.

I also played Jitter -- like with Highrook, these were games where it was harder to guess how they played exactly, without actually playing it, so they are great games for the demo medium. I really enjoyed this; it's physics-based flying around with fun modular destruction, with puzzle gameplay.
Official screenshot of Jitter, showing a ship in a Game Boy kind of green pallette with pixel art, some stats around it, and a brightly coloured character inside the ship, all in a blueprint kind of zoomed out style.

Next I played @punkcake.club's Hot Wax, which was... just as addictive as I would have imagined! I really liked Shotgun King and this brings the same snappy vibes, but with a very well-executed take on Tetris.

Inspired by some posts here, I managed to squeeze in some time with Steam demos this week! I first played The Horror at Highrook. It looks super atmospheric, I have to say that the board game inspired mechanics didn't click fully with me yet, but I will certainly keep an eye on it.

I understand the mathematical reason, because the maximum values are different, but I guess the other two bars should have a big grey part on the right end? But that wouldn't look as humble.
Slider for charity set to max, which is €17,08, Humble is the minimum of €7,32Slider for Humble set to max, which is €24,40, both others are at €0

Is this just very confusing UI (or a bug) from @humblebundle.com? It's very misleading, on top of their minimum cut already being a hefty 31%.
Three sliders to adjust the donation percentages for a Humble Bundle. The top slider for the publisher is at €7,66, as well as the bottom slider for Humble itself. However, the Humble slider is about 15% to the left, which intuitively makes their cut seem smaller.

Just played the first dungeon of @postmarkgames.bsky.social's 52 Realms. It's a nice clever game and I will take any excuse to dust off my favourite playing cards!
A photo of the print and play game 52 Realms on 2 overlapping A4 pages, with 10+ playing cards laying on top of it in various "slots", and some generic board game markers for health tracking. The printed sheets display a functional D&D-esque dungeon map and a fantasy character sheet.

I have been crazily engrossed in Rain World over the last few weeks. It scratches so many of the itches that I can put into words now! I have always been very interested in AI behaviours dynamically interacting, and that's basically the core of Rain World, in the shape of a tricky platformer!

It's the second birthday of Isonzo today. I'm still immensely proud to have worked on this game from (close to) start to beyond the release, with a great line-up of post-release content that is still going strong. Happy birthday, Isonzo! May your CCU stay strong 🫡

Sure, but that change explains the leap from 1990 to 2007. We definitely improved workflows 1000% since then again, but I think modern graphics standards make up for that and then some. AAA games can't get eyelash tech from the asset store, yet gamers for some reason demand they look good.
