Essentially, “Made in China” generated twice as much wealth in the United States as in China – at least $29 of the sales value of the boot circulated entirely within the United States, paying the salaries of advertisers, Web site designers, truckers and salespeople.

Years ago, I spent a few days at a factory in China as a way to explain global supply chains. The factory sold construction boots to U.S. suppliers for $15.30 apiece and made a small profit. The U.S. retailer sold the boots for $49.99 and made a bigger profit. www.nytimes.com/2006/08/03/b...
