So grateful that the October 24 episode of TV Asahi’s Untitled Concert, Japan’s classical music program, will be entirely dedicated to Merregnon: Heart of Ice! Guest of honor Nobuo Uematsu talks about the project, with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra performing excerpts from the work.

Somehow, it’s already been 23 years to the day since the first orchestral video game concert outside Japan, in Leipzig... Here with Nobuo Uematsu and conductor Andy Brick shortly after the performance.

Nobuo Uematsu and Rie Tozuka discuss Merregnon: Heart of Ice in the latest issue of Japan’s renowned classical music magazine Ongaku no Tomo. The author notes: “For children who experience the work at an early age, its allegorical and mythic qualities may help make it a lasting formative memory.”

I remember clearly how meaningful it felt when Final Symphony reached number 5 in the Official Classical Charts back then. Seeing Merregnon: Heart of Ice now reach number 4 means a great deal to me. 🙏

Now that the first clip is out, I can finally say what a remarkable experience it was to travel to Tokyo a few months ago with the ever excellent @davidtarrodi.bsky.social to interview master Nobuo Uematsu about Merregnon: Heart of Ice. More coming very soon: www.instagram.com/reel/DW8mhW9...

Tokyo. Stockholm. London: three cities that have shaped my work. Returning to LSO St Luke’s, where Final Symphony first brought us to the LSO in 2013 for rehearsals, felt especially meaningful. A perfect finale to the Piano Fantasies album release tour with the fabulous @mischacheung.bsky.social.

Piano Fantasies was an emotional concert that reminded me why I originally decided to pursue this profession. It was the first time that one of my productions had its premiere in Japan, and I could not have wished for a more fitting place. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this possible!

25 years ago, the first Merregnon album was released. It’s remarkable how strongly it has shaped my path - and still does. Cliché or not, your early twenties are the time to try, create, and learn while you can still take risks (almost) freely.

Ten years ago today, Final Symphony II was performed in Osaka by the London Symphony Orchestra, the first time a foreign orchestra played video game music in its country of origin. Fans said they could sense the deep engagement, passion and love that went into it. @mischacheung.bsky.social

A snippet from the choir rehearsal for X-Out, part of the Symphonic Shades concert featuring the music of Chris Hülsbeck @chrishuelsbeck.bsky.social, performed 17 years ago today. Jonne Valtonen’s @jonnevaltonen.bsky.social arrangement remains one of my absolute favorites to this day.

I know throwbacks can be a bit tiresome, but Final Symphony with the LSO, twelve years ago today, was a groundbreaking moment for me. It changed everything. So I hope you’ll forgive the nostalgia. And what a coincidence – I get to see the LSO live tonight, right here in my hometown!

Another little throwback, this time to my first meeting with @chrishuelsbeck.bsky.social in the late ’90s. We met at a London Symphony Orchestra concert featuring Jerry Goldsmith’s music, conducted by the maestro himself. (And yes – early digital photography at its finest.)
