“Drink, My Loves” Leviathan’s nutrient-dense crop milk varies in coloration depending on her prey. Red is typical, though it may take on a black or blue composition. If you’ve read RIFT, you know the makeup of the slurry pictured here. The spinelings are pleased with this batch.

Another species that didn’t make the cut (& one of my personal favorites from the animals Fred Wierum designed for RIFT).

“Kneel.” “But it’s wet, Mamma.” “You’ll know pain if you do not show the vættir respect.” “Blót is for the gods. I want to offer to Freyja.” “Careful, child. Land spirits are ev’ry bit as entitled to offerings as the Æsir.” “I thought you said the vættir are wights.” “Kneel. I’ll not say it again.”

RIFT’s bestiary is a useful bonus. Inspired by the Peterson’s Field Guide, it’s meticulously laid out with beautiful artwork by @fredward95 @himarudolf @markwitton & yours truly. The slate palette makes navigation to the back matter a snap as you read. 5/5 on Amazon ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.82/5 on Goodreads ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Does this one count lol!? I'm not sure how I've almost completely avoided drawing blood lol.
An illustration of a heron crouched over river rubbish including plastic bottles and dead fish. It's neck is bent over backwards and it's head is a skull, with neon pink fluid/blood running from the eye sockets and splattered around. The background is vibrant lime green.

Participating in a medical evaluation of an African lion today. The second one so far. Nothing says “going method” like stepping into your main protagonist’s shoes. So pumped for these opportunities and how they have translated into the novel. Y’all are in for a treat.

Well shoot. Missed ‘200 years of Dinosaurs’ and an opportunity to plug RIFT with an excerpt: “The sprawling reptiles reminded Lotta of the crumbling remains of the Crystal Palace statues she had seen as a child before they were lost. Before London’s boroughs were swallowed by the sea”

Half the paleo community: “The notion that Nanotyrannus is a distinct genus separate from T. rex is the most controversial claim of the past year.” General public: “hold my beer…”
