Californians' lives are not expendable in Donald Trump's unhinged, reckless war in Iran. This is yet another callous comment from the tyrant in the White House who dragged the American people into a war that we do not want.

Jeff introduced the term "destroy", Matt affirmed "absolutely, lol" Matt has proceeded to reject liberal pluralism, which suggests a preference for Hobbesian total war prior to the Treaty of Westphalia & its principle of sovereignty.

What do you think happens when a nation is destroyed?

I think MSF advisor Bouchet-Saulnier, linked above, makes a reasonable argument based on centuries of experience. Sovereignty is at the core of liberal internationalism.

The liberals who built the UN took a different view. Art 2(7) "Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state" guide-humanitarian-law.org/sovereignty

In response to destroying Saudi, you said "absolutely, lol" You appear to be advocating for the destruction of many nations.

Jordan, India, New Zealand and many other nations have separate political rights for minorities. Tossing another 1.5 billion people into the fire?

How many of the current states in the UN do you advocate should be destroyed? What sort of world would emerge from all that violence?

So yeah, everyone has seen space boot camp. You've seen and read space wars. You have not read "Haunted war hero becomes resident advisor for freshman dorm from hell and makes friends with adorable space capybara." And you should, 'cause the whole thing is a lot of fun.

Before calling someone a “dirtbag,” the Senator should have had his facts straight. An apology is in order. Glad one of us knew the difference between the Atlanta Hawks and the Iowa Hawkeyes!

A glance at OpenSecrets, looking at cost of fundraising, shows that the DSCC is raising more than it costs.

tiburke @thomas.burked.com · 25/09/2026
I get it, you don't like Carville. He's raising tens of millions in these final days to help flip the senate, why choose to trash him at this critical point? Bonica's work is misleading at best, the party committees are not scam pacs. He timed it to do the most damage to this midterm.

tiburke @thomas.burked.com · 25/09/2026
That is part of the disinformation. DSCC fundraising is efficient, it's not a scam pac.

tiburke @thomas.burked.com · 25/09/2026
Those Carville texts are for flipthesenate.com, the DSCC fundraising effort putting money into new senate opportunities rather than campaigns like Talarico's which have plenty. This misinformation makes it harder for us expand targets. www.politico.com/news/2026/09...

Dems are being outspent across House and Senate races. They disagree over where to put the money they have.
Senate Democrats are split on spending big in deeper-red territory. House Dems are pushing deeper, according to a POLITICO analysis.

In my experience what you call "thinking" is the post-hoc rationalization of my internal thoughts. I have to suppress or distract the conscious aspect to think through a problem. Like the shower effect.

VP Kamala Harris: I'm here to support Dr. El-Sayed because I know he will be a champion on this subject. We have one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the world, so it raises the issue of hypocrisy when there are leaders who walk around every day talking about family values.

Harris and Trump remain at near parity in strength of support, with about six-in-ten of each candidate’s supporters backing them strongly.

Ask Turing himself: "I believe that at the end of the century the use of words and general educated opinion will have altered so much that one will be able to speak of machines thinking without expecting to be contradicted." His prediction was wrong, as we can see in this thread, "And yet it moves"

So I think we're still looking for the third thing. My education is limited to Plato, Aristotle, Acquinas, Spinoza, Kant, Hegel, Heidegger, Habermas, etc. I haven't read as much analytic philosophy, not to mention other traditions. I don't know where to find the third thing.

Very Heideggerian. Aristotle's Organon, & for me Categories specifically, underlie my understanding of CS & set theory. I don't find his Metaphysics as useful. Aquinas & Kant are better in my view, with less Zauberung.
