Smoke from the grill was making great patterns, so I dropped the spatula and grabbed a camera. Pareidolia suggested a skull. With judicious application of light and shadow, I brought out what my mind suggested. I did stop shooting long enough to cook. #scary #smoke #ghost #skull

Here's a species that has come back from near extinction, but still has a long way to go. In the 19th Century, overhunting brought global Sea Otter numbers from 300,000 to 2,000. In 1913, they became protected internationally and it's taken 112 years to get back to an estimated 125,000 worldwide.

My first attempt at Ultraviolet-induced visible fluorescence (UVIVF) photography. Interesting that this flower is white when viewed in full sun, but under 365nm UV light alone, this is its visible fluorescence.

A "white" fortnight lily fluoresces in shades of magenta under a 365nm UV light. The fluorescence is faint to our eyes and gets overpowered by the reflected visible light we see. When we look, we see a white flower. This illustrates how pollinators whose eyes may be calibrated to process a different range of visible light are able to find flowers.
