icymi the cover for my new book, THE AGE OF IMMERSION is out! Here's why I wrote it, what's going to be in it (everything from medieval tournaments and pageants to panoramas, installation art, Happenings, the Starcruiser, and jubensha), and how I researched it.

The diorama museum is very 1970s, and has some animatronics. Many of the displays are falling apart, but in a charming way. Last time I went there was a lady selling kulfi flavored ice cream outside.

Don’t google anything more, just go. I promise it will be good. Also if you’re in the neighborhood I also recommend the Bhagavad Gita Diorama Museum, which is across the street. Though their website is down, so they may have closed. Here’s a pic I took last time I went.

I really liked this piece! It made me wonder if there ought to be some sort of jam in the future for pieces in this vein. non narrative poems, generative text constructions, etc.

Okay, yep, I sunk 4 hours in last night and it's great. Thanks!

It has to do mostly with it wanting to immediately rasterize the text to pixels. I do want it to do that eventually, and I'd like to know what the type will look like when that happens, but I'd like the option to like, edit it and move it around in the meantime? Like I can in any other program?

010

thisisstar @thisisstar.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

Most of us just use aseprite. Though, it is garbage at dealing with type, imo. I personally would love something that had better options for that.

Adrian I would be very curious to see you write a romance novel…or make a romance game?

Yikes. There are a bunch of accessibility reasons not to do this that are obvious, but if you ignore all of those like a jerk, can I just say that it looks bad? This is just terrible visual hierarchy. Get it together UI/UX folks!

I checked this out at AMAZE and it ruled. Go playtest it!

Alternatively if you’re looking for something more flexible and less permanent, you could just get a membership to kaikatsu club. (Internet cafe) They have locations everywhere (all over Japan not just Tokyo) and you just pay by the hour.

Did you read the other one in the trilogy that came before this? I was considering giving them a go. The idea of the story being told in architecture plans intrigued me

Just found out about this Böcklin exhibition that'll be up in Berlin during @amazefest.bsky.social next year: www.smb.museum/en/museums-i.... Multiple Isle of the Dead paintings in the same show? Tagging @antihelios.bsky.social, @laststarfarer.bsky.social, and @calligramstudio.com for reasons.
