Good morning, Glasgow. For the next few days, the sun will rise directly behind the Squinty Bridge, making for some great photo opportunities - provided the skies remain relatively cloud free! #glasgow #goodmorning #glasgowtoday #sunrise #squintybridge

Love the details on this sculpted decorative panel on Thomas Lennox Watson's late 1880s Citizen Building in St Vincent Place in Glasgow. This was one of the first commercial buildings constructed in the city using red sandstone. #glasgow #architecture #sculpture #stvincentplace

That's what I saw too. It's a pity the Goad fire insurance map for Glasgow available online through NLS doesn't quite reach this far out!

After a very wet start, it turned into a rather gorgeous autumn day just in time for the mid-morning dog walk in Victoria Park in Glasgow, and a great photo op, thanks to well-placed pair of swans! #glasgow #dogwalk #autumn #swan #victoriapark

It does seem to, but I haven't been able to find a photo or a map thay specifically identifies it was a tenement. 👍🙂

The rather odd roof suggests this building is the surviving stump of a tenement, where the upper floors have been demolished at some point in the post-war years. #glasgow #byresroad #architecture #architecturephotography #tenement

I love the details around the entrance to this shop on the corner of Byres Road and Vinicombe Street in the West End of Glasgow. Buillt around 1890, one of its first occupants was J.S. Fleming, an ironmonger, blacksmith and cycle agent. Cont./ #glasgow #byresroad #architecture #tenement

Both Jessie and Annie survived on Lifeboat No. 11, while Harper died in the freezing waters of the North Atlantic along with around 1,500 others. In 1921, the church he'd founded on Craigiehall Street was renamed the Harper Memorial Baptist Church in his honour. #glasgow #glasgowhistory

Good morning, Glasgow. There was a brief, but rather beautiful sunrise over the city this morning, with the clouds on the eastern horizon lit from below. Unfortunately, the effect only lasted about ten minutes before it faded back into autumnal greyness. #glasgow #sunrise #autumn #goodmorning

However, the spire at the top of the tower wasn't completed until the 1890s. By this time, Gilbert Scott had died and the work was completed by his son, John Oldrid Scott. #glasgow #architecture #architecturephotography #glasgowuniversity

It's now as much a sign of acceptance of a statue as an insult. In fact, I'm not too sure there's any evidence it was ever meant an an insult, rather than a drunken challenge.

Yes, it's one of many memorials across the city to verious atricities committed all over the world. There's also ones to Srebinicia (in the Glasgow University Peace Garden) and to a massacre of Kurds in Iraq (Queen's Park).

This view shows quite how much effort Walker went to to develop his land on the North Bank of the Kelvin, and it must have been worth it. When he died in 1875, he left assets worth around £33,000, or around £3 million in today's money, accumulated from his various business ventures.
