microsoft.public.win95.setup 1998 lol i'm trying to recover a win 95 486 machine and having problems www.usenet-rewind.com/thread/MzY1Q...
Im not sure if this is the right newsgroup to post the problem but,

A few days a go my older 50 mhz 486 win95 Version A had a problem on
start up it would say invalid system disk(no theres no floppy in), so i
made a system boot disk on my other comp. Now when it starts up it says
"The compression driver cannot be set up correctly" now my hard drive is
compressed useing the Win95 DriveSpace Utilty(to a wooping 200 megs)
Any ideas what the problem is? any suggestions? thanks alot

comp.os.msdos.programmer 1999 I used to buy cheap old computers from garage sales or pick them up from the tree lawn when ppl threw them out and I'd try to write programs for them. www.usenet-rewind.com/thread/N2Q2a...

In addition to stuff like Borland C/C++, check out:
http://www.idiom.com/free-compilers/ [Wayback] -- exactly what it says,
reference to a zillion free compilers. You'd never believe how
many there are out there, the world is swimming in 'em :)

BTW I don't know if a 16bit version of DJGPP is still available;
current version is 32bit, and both flavours have such poor file
I/O that I suspect anything it produces would run like absolute
crap on a 286, especially with the usual old slow hard disk.

~REZ~
(who still has a perfectly functional 286 that is my emergency
backup system and also earns its keep by often reading "dead"
floppies other systems don't even SEE)
