I created an animation of the little light-displays that sparks used to make in the soot on the back of the fireplace when I was a child. Read about it here: thisisjam.es/creating/spa... #animation #creativity

My hand lettering used to be terrible. I practiced on the iPad, and now my lettering is much better. This is a little essay about how I improved my digital handwriting: thisisjam.es/illustrating... #Art

I believe this is Chlorociboria, which stains wood bluish-green due to a pigment called xylindein. Taken at El Pont de Suert, Lerida, Catalonia, Spain. More of my fungi photos here: thisisjam.es/illustrating... #fungi #mycology 🍄🍄‍🟫

The line work for my Marriage of Heaven and Hell image, inspired by William Blake, before applying color. The text in the image is from the book by Blake, written with a calligraphy pen. #ArtAdventCalendar #art

The 3nd of my illustrations of the story Somnium by Johannes Kepler, sci-fi from 1634. A witch helps her son visit the moon. It may have caused Kepler's mother to be tried as a witch. More here: thisisjam.es/illustrating... #ArtAdventCalendar #SciFi #ScienceFiction #witchsky #witchcraft #occult

The 2nd of my illustrations of the story Somnium by Johannes Kepler, science fiction fantasy from 1634. It's fascinating, and was possibly a cause of his mother being tried as a witch. Read about it here: thisisjam.es/illustrating... #ArtAdventCalendar #SciFi #ScienceFiction #witchsky #witchcraft

I did some illustrations of one of the first science fiction stories - Somnium by Johannes Kepler. It's a fascinating story, and was possibly a cause of his mother being tried as a witch. More details here: thisisjam.es/illustrating... #ArtAdventCalendar

I have created my own bespoke exercise tracker, sing Python with Flask, D3 and SQLite, . I enter details in the forms about number of reps each day I exercise, and pressing submit automatically updates the database and the graph. So I get instant feedback and a bit of extra motivation. #datavis 📊

My own exercise tracker, with forms to enter data, a graph, and a scrollable table of previous entries.

I think the points Schrödinger makes in his book "What is life" could be made much more succinctly by a drunk Schrödinger, so I made some cartoons about it. This is one of them.

Cartoon about Schrödinger. "Atoms are so tiny that, if we poured your glass of beer into the sea, and then mixed the sea and beer together, and then we filled the glass again with water from the sea, the glass would contain around 200 atoms from your beer.

Another of my Favorite quotes, from the mad genius William Blake.

I must create a system or be enslaved by another man's; I will not reason and compare: my business is to create. William Blake.

This is one of my favorite quotes, so I wrote it out:

We thought of life by analogy with a journey, a pilgrimage, which had a serious purpose at the end, and the thing was to get to that end, success or whatever it is, maybe heaven after you’re dead. But we missed the point the whole way along. It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing or to dance while the music was being played.
Alan Watts

My first post on Bluesky! I'm a datavis enthusiast & like writing visual essays. I like learning new things by doing stuff. My new website is thisisjam.es

It is easy to convince yourself that you should learn more before taking action. But too often this becomes an excuse not to do anything. When failure is cheap, learn by doing.
