Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Mass slowdown, all taking a breath, isn’t feasible, but the “all or nothing” approach to AI is unhealthy. Take what works best for you and you are comfortable with, mind the tradeoffs and make sure the benefits are there. Especially important in open source, where it is already too easy to burn out. 100
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 15/09/2026In preview, the pull request list on @github.com has a “Compact display density” 🗜️ mode. It fits more rows of shorter panels. Is this option going to be available for the issue list too? Could we get that for the issue list? 000
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 12/09/2026We got there! Non-destructive settings was the last pre-1.0 feature, and it’s live with Penpot Desktop 0.25.0. Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 10/09/2026You can explicitly set a charging limit on macOS now, between 80 and 100%. Must be a 26.x addition. It was not possible a few months ago. System Settings > Battery, then click the circled “i” icon next to Charging. Good addition. Optimised Charging is a nice concept, but it’s slow to adapt. 000
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Lodash installation was close. However, Node's util module has isDeepStrictEqual (check includes prototype and constructor, which can be skipped with Node >=24.9.0). Not today. nodejs.org/api/util.htm...nodejs.orgUtil | Node.js v26.8.1 Documentation 001
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 02/09/2026What great news, window state persistence landed in Electron. I was following its development after seeing the RFC for the window state API, and now Penpot Desktop will migrate to the built-in solution 🎉. 041
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 30/08/2026If you use a local #LLM for code predictions and it’s too verbose (generates ten lines of code when completing the one would do), try using the “base” variant of the model. “Base” is designed for “predict next token” and works better for text extension. 000
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Penpot Desktop v0.24 is live. The release focuses on the local instance creator, enabling automatic Docker configuration updates when containers are created/updated, and porting the upstream @penpot.app Docker Compose config updates (e.g. the MCP server) to the app’s Docker configuration template. 010
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Surprisingly, in the last few months, my go-to library for building components became… @lit.dev. For its well-balanced abstraction that makes web components not feel like a chore. You should try it if you bounced off web components in the past or dread working on a custom element. 071
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 10/08/2026You would think rolling 12 or higher with 2d8 can’t be that bad. It’s a little over a 23% chance. Painful if you are rolling a skill check. 000
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Going down the rabbit hole of interactive conference badges and landed on the following setup: - 3-5" LCD + ESP32, - 2400mAh LiPo battery, - laser-cut PVC front, - 3D-printed back (battery holder, colour accent). Now need to make sure the display module has built-in charging - no battery swaps. 000
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 14/07/2026I was making an eBook, and the space of publishing software could really use some concept of reusable components. Currently, if you need to change the design (e.g. fancy quote, recipe structure), you are in for a journey through the entire eBook. Unless you use Paged.js, the web way, coding though. 000

Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 04/09/2025I just ran the first test update of a local @penpot.app instance using Penpot Desktop. Everything went well, with one click to trigger @docker.com to pull new images and (re)create the containers. 🎉 100
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 28/08/2025How do you use view mode in @penpot.app? Here is a proof of concept of an auto-reload for the view window. Once the file changes are saved, Penpot Desktop would refresh the view for you. 000
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 27/08/2025You can now specify the @penpot.app version of the local instance to create. It defaults to the “latest”, but any valid Penpot Docker repository tag should work, with suggestions for ten of the most recent tags. 000

Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 21/05/2025You can now enable the native title bar for your Penpot Desktop window. Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 16/04/2025Recently, I learnt that in VS Code, you can have inline Git blame info without needing any extensions. 1. Go to Settings. 2. Search for "Git blame". 3. Tick the box for "Git › Blame › Editor Decoration”. Or you can set "git.blame.editorDecoration.enabled" to `true` in the Settings JSON. Enjoy. 000
Belar @thisisbelar.bsky.social · 11/04/2025I went on a small bug fixing spree for Penpot Desktop this week. It means: - visual indicators for colourless tabs' states, - a persistent "new tab" button, - and more tab space in macOS's full-screen mode. Just one more issue with instances to sort out and the v0.12.1 update will be out to you. 000
