Burnham is about to revoke the law that says water cannot be nationalised, so I think the analysis that he refuses to take it back under government control is a bit unfair? www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/bur...

Nevermind how the woman looks, the weirdest stuff is what Trump is saying. What horrible things did he want to do to Clinton, Obama and Biden that he was somehow persuaded not to?

I abandoned Amazon a few years ago out of spite. My account is still live and I’m glad to say it knows absolutely nothing about me.

This felt like a speech to attract back the rich donors rather than the voters.

Climate solutions most likely to reach ‘positive tipping points’ revealed by scientists
Global shift towards clean electricity could trigger ‘cascade’ of progress, helping reduce air pollution, cut waste and revive oceans A rapid global shift to clean electricity could trigger a “cascade” of progress towards repairing the damage to the planet by the climate crisis, according to a report identifying the environmental solutions most likely to bring about change. The analysis focuses on “positive tipping points” – thresholds beyond which a sustainable technology or practice becomes increasingly cheap, widespread or politically popular, allowing progress to become self-propelling. At least he is declaring it… and £350k over more than a year, mostly from standard Labour donors, is not exactly dodgy business.

Also, here‘s a policy I incorrectly believed he was going to announce and then he didn’t. I will now call this a humiliating u-turn on his part.

It’s brilliant but I hope this guy has good lawyers, because Trump’s sense of humour is essentially non existent and he will definitely throw some petty tantrum over it.

Excellent question, conveyed with the restrained loathing that Rutte deserves for his slavish attitude towards Trump.

Popularity tends to drop as politicians become more visible and of course scrutinised. Ed Davey is relatively popular but that’s because nobody has any reason to criticise him, so we know nothing about his views or past. Badenoch equally benefits from her relative insignificance.

The GMCA won the first court case on this issue, so maybe don’t assume too quickly that Burnham has done anything wrong. This is the appeal and, quite conveniently, the Daily Mail is extensively quoting one side of the story and ignoring the counter arguments also made in court.

That is actually not true, if you have lots of money but no library, you can buy books. But I get the sentiment, books are good and not just for people who can afford to buy them.

It’s funny until you remember it’s real. Most of the world is just watching on in horror as the USA strips itself of all humanity and dignity. We stopped laughing a long time ago.

No need to look down on Sunderland as a city just because it has Reform council. Quite a few Northern towns are stuck with these clowns but ridiculing our area and its people isn’t going to fix that. It is an issue that sits on decades of neglect for which many parties should take responsibility.

If those are his worst sins, and I’m sure every right wing journalist has dug very deep for these, then he seems ok to me. Polanski was very restrained over the Rayner tax issue and I feel we should allow him the same level of grace. There’s much worse going on right now.

I visited this last year and I agree, it‘s stunning and also very well equipped. You know it’s a serious place when the Philosophy section is its own corner and not just a sad shelf with one faded Plato and a neglected Nietzsche.

But that’s simply not true. Farage’s entire school time has, quite rightly, been dissected. Angela Rayner’s every bill has been checked. Starmer’s full personal and career life has been debated. Polanski will also, quite rightly, attract scrutiny as his influence grows.

My PhD research focuses on the power that individuals hold when they come together as a collective, so it's always heartening to see this in action. Kudos to Ecosia for showing that many tiny individual actions (like web searches) can create major social benefit. youtu.be/aH-f3PekGUE?...

It's Trans Day Of Visibility. It's getting more & more dangerous to be visibly trans, & more & more important for allies to be visible too. Trans people are such a tiny minority group, which makes it easy to target them. But it's much harder to do that if they are surrounded by supporters.

If my daughter can be asked to grow up in a world with misogyny and sexism, then I don’t see why my son can’t be asked to learn about this a little. It’ll help boys recognise the signs, challenge each other and know adults are there to help.

In all fairness, these are two different commentator. Doesn’t make the Times any less idiotic but I don’t think it’s unusual for a paper to field column writers with different views.

‘It’s my body and I decide who gets to camp in it’ is all the justification that is needed. This is another reason to stay firm on trans rights: we give in to that, and we will keep withdrawing until there is nothing left.
