Driver's get a lot more mandatory training in Germany. You have to take 14 90-min classroom lessons before even getting behind the wheel. Then a certain number of hrs of night driving, highway driving, intercity driving w/a professional plus your regular driving lessons.

They do it in NC as well. But, of course, rabies hasn't been completely eradicated yet, so there will still be some sick raccoons. Less is better than more though. www.dph.ncdhhs.gov/blog/2026/04...

If more corps would pay living wages, then we could stop subsidizing corps through SNAP & Medicaid & other benefit programs designed to fill in the gaps left by corps that underpay people. People don't get paid what they're worth; they get paid what they can negotiate. W/out unions, that's not much.

thisannabelle.bsky.social @thisannabelle.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Doesn't need to be. $1.6 trillion ÷ amongst 43 million people is still $1.6 trillion. We may not offer corporate debt relief directly but we do offer tax breaks & incentives. And we allow corporations to say they can't afford to pay living wages - maybe because of debt? - so govt pays SNAP/Medicaid.

Oh, I see. I read the last statement as a reflection on the Leviticus passage. My bad. My beef is not with people who study the Old Testament, but rather, it's just with people who use it to persecute others in the name of Jesus. Leviticus does not align well w/the teachings of Jesus.

thisannabelle.bsky.social @thisannabelle.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Leviticus is Old Testament, so this isn't exactly Jesus. But point taken. Just wanted to point out Jesus had nothing to do w/Leviticus since so many Republicans like to pick & choose from it in the persecution of others & say it's in the name of Jesus. I guess this particular passage not so much.

Ever extra $ those people get goes straight back into the economy, spent on necessities. They don't need to be buying lattes and tvs for their spending to power the engine.

Our economy absolutely depends on $s moving through the system. There's so much $ stagnating in debt & hoarded by the morbidly rich right now. If you're worried about inflation, maybe a gradual program of debt relief could give the market time to adjust w/out too much inflation.

The purpose of student loan forgiveness is not so much to relieve the financial burdens of individuals, although it is liberating for those who benefit. It is to free up large amounts of capital to fuel the economy. Sort of like how debt jubilee was used to prevent social collapse 1000s of yrs ago.

You couldn’t even buy what Social Security provides on the private market. So why do we keep talking about the people who rely on it like they’re a drain on the system? Rey Fuentes from @rooseveltinstitute.org explains ⬇️ 🎧 ➡️ bit.ly/3UIuf3B

What do you think he meant by "language"? I didn't hear any righteous indignation. O'Donnell does not mince words himself re: DJT, & I think that's what he was referring to in the way Ossoff calls DJT out. I think he's loving the direct way Ossoff speaks & would like to see more of it from all.

That's awful. If they're not in a Medicare desert, they might have a Medicare Advantage plan that requires them to stay in-network. Maybe if they switched to regular Medicare, they'd have an easier time finding a Dr. Most people don't realize there's a difference.

That would be my preference as well. I console myself with the knowledge that Medicare is actually very popular.

About 98% of non-pediatric Drs accept regular Medicare. Medicare Advantage is a different story, but that's not actually Medicare. Those are private insurance plans. Finding a Dr who takes Medicaid is harder, but again, that's not Medicare either.

Medicare for All operates differently than current Medicare. Much more comprehensive w/out all the parts. They used the Medicare name because Medicare is actually very popular, but it looks nothing like current Medicare.

Host Nick Hanauer has a simple Social Security fix. It would permanently secure funding, give 95% of Americans a raise, and drive economic growth across the country. How do you think we should solve Social Security's financial shortfall?

That $40mil net worth number has to be wrong. Her house is worth $70mil. Unless she's in absolutely massive debt, she's got to have a net worth of more than $40mil. Not that any of this is the point. It just stood out to me.

Wow. If those numbers are accurate, she's horrible with money. $15 million a year (since 2017) and her net worth is only $40 million? Somehow I don't think she's giving it all to charity. What the heck does she do with it??

He's seen as the deciding vote because he cast the final vote. Had he voted yes, the count would have been 50/50 & Pence would have been able to break the tie in favor of the Republicans' position. The 3 Rep defectors were all needed, but McCain was the deciding vote.

You're probably right there was more than we want to admit. I just don't see anything suggesting SIDS deaths dropped around the time abortion & birth control became widely available. I do agree though that unavailability of abortion & birth control led to many adverse outcomes we don't talk about.

Thx! All I see here though is an increase in the rate from '73-'79, '73 being when they started using SIDS as a separate cause of death. I don't see a number reported anywhere for asphyxia in '88. But it seems hard to compare accurately w/all the changes in how they categorized deaths at that time.

thisannabelle.bsky.social @thisannabelle.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
I can't find any evidence of the number of SIDS deaths decreasing around the same time birth control and abortion became widely available. Do you have a link? There doesn't seem to be much data available before the 1980s. After back-to-sleep campaign, rate dropped 60-80% in countries that used it.

Yes, and sometimes they recline fully as well in case a patient needs to lay down for any reason, like a drop in blood pressure. They're calling it a hospital bed even in published articles which really makes it clear how much they're not... I don't know.... vetting the facts of the story?

Everyone's saying he's in a hospital bed. Y'all, that is not a hospital bed. It's too narrow & hospital beds don't have immovable side rails. Those are the arms of a chair. You can see the blue of the chair back peeking out from behind the pillows.
