The Tim Burchette that was demanding flight logs 3 years ago??
Newsweek excerpt:
By Giulia Carbonaro
US News Reporter

Representative Tim Burchett of Tennessee, a Republican, said that the flight logs of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein aren't being publicly released because too many of his "colleagues" would be involved.

Talking on The Chris Salcedo Show on Newsmax on Monday, Burchett addressed what he called Congress' reluctance to release the crucial information about Epstein's infamous "Lolita Express." The plane was used by the billionaire pedophile to ferry young women between New York and Epstein's Palm Beach residence, as it emerged from the case against his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

I think this is an important point. Parents could just as easily say they don’t want their children being exposed to Judaism or Islam for “religious reasons”.
Excerpt from outreach.faith

The Baptist minister Paul Rauschenbush, who is a married gay man, noted on his Instagram feed that he fears the Supreme Court ruling could also be used to opt out of learning about “other religious people, or people who are different from you, from any background.” Rauschenbush, who is also the CEO of the Interfaith Alliance, calls it a slippery slope. “I want my kids who are in public schools to learn stories about people who are different from them.”

Tennessee should charge ICE agents for an illegal abortion under their own Human Life Protection Act.
From legalclarity.org:

Legal Conditions for Abortion

Tennessee law prohibits abortion in nearly all circumstances under the Human Life Protection Act, which took effect on August 25, 2022. This “trigger ban” automatically became enforceable after Roe v. Wade was overturned. Performing or attempting to perform an abortion is classified as a Class C felony, carrying potential prison time and fines. From legalclarity.org:

Medical Provider Criteria

Tennessee law imposes strict regulations on who can provide abortion services. Before the ban, only licensed physicians could perform abortions, excluding nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and midwives. Physicians were also required to have hospital admitting privileges within a certain distance of the procedure location, a restriction that had already reduced the number of eligible providers.

“My kids can’t afford anything and will have no future!!”
Excerpt from yahoo finance:

Greene's net worth has reportedly increased from $700,000 before she joined Congress to approximately $22 million today, according to multiple media outlets. This rise is notable considering the salary of a congressional member is $174,000. According to stock trading data platform Quiver Quantitative, Greene has executed 450 stock trades since 2021, the year she joined the House.

direct threat against Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying that “we know exactly where” he is and calling him “an easy target.” He said, “We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least for now.” But he warned, “Our patience is growing thin.”

Mr. Trump called for Iran’s “complete surrender.”

It doesn’t appear to be accurate though. There were 20 million on Earth Day 1970.
Excerpt from BBC article:

Ageing protesters still speak of the first Earth Day with reverence. On 22 April 1970, 20 million people took to the streets across the United States to protest environmental destruction. The nation had recently witnessed the devastating impacts of the Santa Barbara oil spill and seen the first photographs of the Earth taken by astronauts. The beauty of that blue marble pictured from space contrasted bleakly with the lamentable state of the Earth that they knew from the ground.

It’s true, the assignment is shitty.
Excerpt from: The Guardian

She had also seen a written comment passed along to her organization from a national guard member who described the assignment as “shitty” – particularly compared with early secondments to help with wildfire relief or, during the Covid pandemic, vaccination outreach.

“Both of those experiences were uncomplicatedly positive, a contribution back to the community,” Streyder described the message as saying. “This is quite the opposite.”

Cops are totally out of control.
By Maxine Bernstein | The Oregonian/OregonLive
An Oregon State Police recruitment email for the SWAT unit trumpeted fatal shootings by its members and the elite unit’s use of an arsenal of weapons.

“Are you jonesing to fire 40mm less lethal rounds and gas munitions through windows, gables, cameras, and at fleeing suspects?” it read.

“How about tossing diversions (flash bangs) or launching gas cannisters with a shotgun launcher? Anyone want to shoot some pepperball into vehicles or basements or crawlspaces or the attics of houses to flush out hiding suspects?”

He didn’t comply with the statute when he ignored the Governor so he’ll try to switch to the Insurrection Act, but that can only be invoked in a state if the state is violating the rights of residents that are protected by the US Constitution (and that the administration actually keeps violating).
Excerpt of: Title 10 §12406. National Guard in Federal service

Highlighted: ”Orders for these purposes shall be issued through the governors of the States or, in the case of the District of Columbia, through the commanding general of the National Guard of the District of Columbia.”

Whenever –
(1) the United States, or any of the Commonwealths or possessions, is invaded or is in danger of invasion by a foreign nation;
(2) there is a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States; or
(3) the President is unable, with the regular forces, to execute the laws of the United States;
…the President may call into Federal service members and units of the National Guard of any State in such numbers as he considers necessary to repel the invasion, suppress the rebellion or execute those laws. Orders for these purposes shall be issued through the governors of the States or, in the case of the District of Columbia, through the commanding general of the National Guard of the District of Columbia.Excerpt of Insurrection Act 10 U.S.C. Sec. 333. Interference with State and Federal law

The President, by using the militia or the armed forces, or both, or by any other means, shall take such measures as he considers necessary to suppress, in a State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination or conspiracy, if it —
(1) so hinders the execution of the laws of that State, and of the United States within the State, that any part or class of its people is deprived of a right, privilege, immunity or protection named in the Constitution and secured by law, and the constituted authorities of that State are unable, fail, or refuse to protect that right, privilege, or immunity or to give that protection; or
(2) opposes or obstructs the execution of the laws of the United States or impedes the course of justice under those laws.
In any situation covered by clause (1), the State shall be considered to have denied the equal protection of the laws secured by the Constitution.

‘Trad wife’ sales manager fired after using N-word in foul-mouthed cooking video

By Katherine Donlevy
Published June 11, 2024, 9:53 p.m. ET

A TikTokker who claims to be a “trad wife” has been fired after casually dropping the N-word in a cooking video.

Lilly Gaddis filmed herself in the kitchen as she used the racist slur — and also referenced “dumb whores,” “immigrants fresh off the boat looking for a green card” and “gold diggers.”

The video racked up millions of views before TikTok suspended her account.

It’s interesting that one of the best indicators it’s a student bot is that it’s too polite.
Excerpt from voice of San Diego:

They feature clunky phrases that are uncommon for modern students to use like “I kindly request,” “warm regards,” or “I look forward to your positive response.” Much of that stilted language lines up with what she’s seen from the AI-generated content submitted by bot students.

I’d guess it’s more the AI. It’s hugely invasive in MS products now. I spent a good amount of time disabling Copilot everywhere I could find it enabled on a new laptop and with Office you have to disable it in each individual app.
Computerworld excerpt:

"Saunders said. “They don’t want subscriptions, and they don’t want AI being ‘helpful’ by poking its nose into their work — it reminds them of Clippy from the bad old days,” he said.

There are genuine use cases for generative AI tools, but many users prefer to opt-in to it and choose when and where to enable it. “We have zero plans to put AI into LibreOffice."

Why didn’t this maga cheer squad not know they wouldn’t take women when they made the prison rendition arrangement with Nayib Bukele?
Photo of US MAGA delegation (including Don Jr, Mike Lee, Matt Gaetz, Tucker Carlson) celebrating El Salvador President Nayib Bukele’s 2nd inauguration.Excerpt from MSNBC:

Several Republicans, including Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, Donald Trump Jr. and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, traveled to El Salvador to cheer the second inauguration of Nayib Bukele, the country’s authoritarian president.

Bukele, who has branded himself as the “coolest dictator in the world,” has become known for extrajudicial violence against suspected gang members and for using military force to pressure lawmakers to bend to his will. He also has become known for suppressing women’s rights and banning school discussions about gender, which has endeared him to American conservatives.

fwiw, climate change is a likely factor in the spread of hantavirus in the US.
From Wikipedia:

Climate change disrupts the ecosystem especially concerning hantavirus epidemiology. The impacts of climate change are shown in events such as altered precipitation patterns and shifts in water cycles. In warmer water climates the rodent populations tend to increase along with food and shelter becoming accessible.[3] These rodents are the primary hosts of hantavirus and can then spread the virus more quickly. Climatic factors such as rainfall and temperature impact rodent population density, with milder winters and increased food sources contributing to population booms that can elevate the risk of hantavirus transmission to humans.
