"Where do ghosts stand (or float?) in the rogue’s gallery of the supernatural? Do they scare us – and, if not, what is their storytelling purpose? How do our three films fit into all of this? And, last but not least: would you fall for the romantic advances of a character played by George Sanders?"

I have to say I’m not a fan of the look: there’s something too smooth to it, especially compared to the rest of the graphics. I’m wondering if there’d be some kind of pixelation shader that would make the character look more in tune with the 3D-ified pixel art?

Certainly a good choice, as there are films you should definitely not watch when you’re ill. As a kid, I saw Doctor Zhivago (not my choice at the time) when I had a flu, and I swear the film never ended and is still going on.

"There’s an underrated skill in making an epic that feels like we’ve gone on a proper journey. Many films don’t really manage it, even with a wearying long runtime. Yet I felt I’d seen an epic by the time of the intermission, and that’s not even halfway through."

"Mara isn’t the cypher that video game protagonists often are. She is clearly defined, through what she says and does as much as through what she doesn’t do. Her clothes, hair, posture: even rendered in blocky pixel art, all of these give us an impression of who she is."

Gotta say, for me Le Carré's world looks like late '70s, early '80s European TV, colour scheme and all. It might be different if my first Le Carré film had been The Spy Who Came In From the Cold, but my formative experience was with the two Smiley series.
