Write enough GoT fanfic and you realize that Randyl Tarly is a shitty grimdark knockoff of Mercedes Lackey's Withen Ashkeveron.

Fanfic generally gets written for one of two reasons. Well, actually three reasons.

I mean this is the most church counselor way of putting it, but intelligence by itself is nearly worthless. wisdom and prudence and discernment are necessary qualities for intelligence to be useful. innumerable religious scriptures have tried to explain this but yr tech bros aren't big on books

So, today I went down a research and analysis rabbithole. It turns out, you can map the dominant social pressures of any decade from the 1960's onwards and it correlates pretty fucking neatly with the popular escapist fantasy literary trends of works marketed to teenage girls and young women.

Everyone has a particular ai prose style quirk that just makes them twitch. Most everyone seems to focus on em dashes or checklist rhythm.

We're not snowed in atm, but it's 21 degrees out and neither of us wants to deal with that, so the husband is aggressively re-organizing our doomboxes and I'm re-chunking a database.

Question for the hive mind, because I suck at naming things. I'm considering putting up a Google Sites webpage/site for random AI tricks. (Like how to style prose output to follow Old English grammar) I have no desire to use it as a funnel for a paywall service.

Note to self: do not try to design a db when you are exhausted. This schema is a punishment from God and I did it to myself.

AI summaries in search results are a direct result of web enshittification. We use web search to *answer questions* but it doesnt matter how good the service or how ad free the results pages are if the web pages themselves are actively dedicated to NOT answering your questions.

While discussing my 80,000 word and growing fic of doom with the husband last night, I showed him the tab in my project excel file that is just dedicated to tracking character ages. Over 30 characters for a story that will span about 45-ish years. He made a strangled sound and ran away.

The first time I ever punched a boy in the face I was 14 years old, punching a 14 year old boy, because he asked me how much I'd charge to suck him off under the bleachers. It was 1989. And that's how I got tagged as the town "crazy chick".

More people need to remember the three F's when it comes to giving thinly disguised directives to strangers regarding what tools they choose to use. To wit: if you aren't feeding, funding, or f**king me, you don't get a say in any of it.

I dunno how common this is, but I find that I write almost exactly the way I paint. I take a rough idea and stare at it for ages, get lost in detail, figure out what the actual shape should be, work slowly and painfully on *more* details until I hit a point where anything more feels like "too much".
