If it is IP theft, §230 explicitly does not defend that.

No one is talking about the epstein files now! This also fits into the "flood the zone" strategy.

I find the glasses concerning. I am not sure how someone would effectively ban them. They are not the only portable unnoticeable camera out there. But they are a very popular one.

For that to be the case, congress would have to change the law. Not that §230 is specific to social media. It has been used to defend from liability for forwarding an email or to defend from liability from a person leaving a comment on a website.

I wrote section 230 to protect the little guys and the upstarts like Bluesky. Repealing section 230 only helps Meta, Musk, and Donald Trump.

I keep typing v instead of C. Schlep has a C&D on accessing Roblox from August 2025.

The the compurer with the account was handed to him by someone that has a V&D to not interact with the platform is also significant. Arguably, the V&D was being violated by puppetering Chris.

In addition to not being truthful, stating that Roblox specifically banned Chris Hansen may lead some to falsely believe they have taken a public stance against him absent of them doing so. I think there is plenty to condemn Roblox for that there is no need to exaggerate or misrepresent to do so.

No, Roblox banned Schlep in August 2025. Schlep handed Chris Hansen a computer with an account last week and moments later that account was banned. Christ wasn't familiar with the account.

It is worth noting Chris Hansen wasn't banned. It wasn't his account. (Schlep has been banned for a year. He handed Chris the computer with the account). Note that if Chris made a Roblox account, his interactions would be limited to only being able to speak with 18+ y/o players.

Yeah, this teen is at eye-level with me. I'm glad I didn't have to deal with this stuff as a Kid. At the age of 13 I was breifly on TV for winning some nickelodeon contest and felt out of place because I was the only kid with facial hair. Age Estimation would not have been kind to me.

Swips an ID, gets an older sibling to face scan for them,... There are bypasses. This just ads friction. If the kid wishes to play with their peers though they will want an account that is in their friend's age group. Would not be surprised if some kid has multiple accounts for mult. ages.

Yeah, when my niece saw the only way she could be put in the same age group as her friends if she sent them a govt ID, she stopped playing. It was no fun to be left out of the conversation and not know what is going on. She is also trained to emphasize security more than her peers.

I think it was FB that started publishing their stats on reports to NCMEC. One bad effect of publishing such reports is if when they add new tools and techniques for detecting criminal activity, it actually makes them look worst. More effective detection = higher numbers.

Though removing advocates just gives them the Stiesand Effect, bringing attention to the issue and the person.

I don't know the answers for what they should do. But there is a tension at play. A company (not just Roblox) may have interest in quietly removing problem elements. Advocates have an interest in giving high visibility to removes, which may generally be bad PR for the company.

I feel like protecting the kids will eventually lead to just not letting the kids interact online (or as close to it as people can get). That is what some other countries are doing. Filtering out bad actors perfectly is near impossible. They are part of community and can hide in plain site.

The most charitible interpretation that I can come up with was that it was a poor way of expressing that they are up to taking on the challenge of making their environment safer. Roblox provides many great examples of awful communication to the public.

It was a move that invited more bad PR. If they could rewind time, I am sure they would have taken a different course of action. Though I have no clue what.

It isn't perfect. My niece stopped playing because it estimated her to be an adult. In fairness, other adults also estimate her as an adult until she talks for more than 10 seconds. She was estimated as 21+, putting her well outside her friend group.

The 16-17 group can speak in their group and to the 18-20 group. The 18-20 group can speak to the 16-17 group and the 21+ group. People that know each other in real life can exchange "keys" that will allow them to speak. I can speak to my nephew because of this though we are in diff groups.

The age restriction isn't based on self-declaration. When a person opens account, it has no access to chat. To access chat, the person must do a facial scan or send in a govt ID. That puts them i to an age group. They can speak to people in adjacent age groups...

I am referring to the title referenced in the OP, Ro-Meet. Micheal handed Chris a computer with an account and in that title. I have not seen that the company is running by people persuing purient interest in children.

It was August 2025 that he was permanently suspended and sent a cease and desist. I watched some of his videos. They do not make clear how he initially encountered the people in question (did he meet thrm on discord and then go to Roblox or Vice Versa). In any case, he labeled Roblox negligent...

Roblox, Inc did not make the game in question. Roblox user's make games and upload them, just as on YouTube users make videos and upload them. The game in question was age-restricted to 16+.

It seams inaccurate to say Chris was banned. The account in question was on a computer handed to him by Micheal. Micheal is banned and got a C&D. Chris didn't appear to know what he was looking at and had questions about the account.

I saw such a comment yesterday. When I asked for an explanation, the person said that the violators he found were found on discord, and that he brought them over to Roblox and attributed the interactions to Roblox. In Schlep's videos, the initial point of contact is not made clear.

After all, if someone "wins" but then ends up with a 200,000 USD legal bill, would we actually call that a "win"?

§230 still might be a defense for them yet. I think the loss of the early dismissal removes one of the advantages of §230 - cases that drag on cost more, and could destroy smaller entities. FB has the money to survive and still could get a dismissal. But smaller parties could be ruined.

Everything a computer does is through the implementation of some algorithm. There is no algorithm-free option. I also don’t think people want to experience their newsfeeds and email without some form of ranking, filtering, and moderating.

I logged into threads some weeks ago. I saw a video of some south-asian boys set a living dog on fire. I haven't been on threads since then and only stuck around long enough to report the video.

4 panel comic

Panel 1:
A post from “kavishj9611” that reads:

“All the people who are anti-Al or want to slow Al progress, I have one question:
If Al disappeared tomorrow, could you still get through an entire workday without ChatGPT, Claude, or any other
Al tool?
Imagine Al was suddenly banned.
Would you actually be willing to give it up?”

Panel 2:
And Orange Guy and a Pink Guy are standing in a room that has two pipes in it. Both pipes are pumping raw sewage into the room. The characters are waist deep in it.
Orange Guy says smugly “Ok Mr “I don’t want to be in a room that’s filling up with raw sewage” let me ask you this”

Panel 3:
The sewage has reached their chests. Pink Guy is gagging. Orange Guy smugly continues “If all this sewage disappeared right now, could you get through the day without it?”

Panel 4:
The sewage is almost up to their eyeballs. Orange Guys says “Look at that shit floating past your face. Are you willing to give that up?”

Dear lord, if I thought that FB was representative of the world generally, I would think the world was a pretty horrible place. In the breif thought-experiement I had pretending that, I think I feel some sympathy for how your husband is feeling. I won't mention what I've seen on Threads.

🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏻‍♀️ - sure. I'm not sure what the expectation is on how doing so would address some of the concerns mentioned here. With or without §230, some of the content people refer to as brainrot remains protected. But a repeal would change the landscape in chaotic ways, though.

Fundamentally, what people call "social media" is people interacting with each other online. Unless one is co sideline weakening Amendment One to give the govt more power over speech, I do not see that the govt could have banned it.

NetChoice v Moody has some overlap, as it also involved govt attempting to interfere with freedom of the press and claiming tjere was some substantial govt interest. Again, see thr SCOTUS response.

It is a restriction of the freedom of the press. Deciding on content arrangement is included in that freedom. The govt interfering with that freedom violates 1A. But don't take my word for it Look to the SCOTUS response when Texas tried to do something very similar (NetChoice v Paxton).
