We launched From Bear Lake park. Not sure why Bear Lake is not just considered part of Lake Cowichan though. As we were getting back to shore we spotted the moon just over the hill. 000

No idea why The Staircase exists. doesn't seem to be anything else there. Easy paddling out, but a bit more work coming back as the wind had picked up, and the tide was coming at us. 100

Turned around at the red gate. Ran into a mama bear and cubs, so a bit of a delay waiting for them to shamble off the trail. 000

Started with some self-rescue, which is pretty straightforward, then paddled down around Memory Island. Main beach was full of boats, but the secondary spot was open, so we stopped for a little swim. 110
