I would say the flower is the most important especially if you're not picking it and instead you're taking a photo of it to keep it for all your life!

While USA is frozen in the ICE, France is drowning under heavy rains. So it's time to remember what migrants can bring to the beauty of a country. Sympetrum fonscolombii is one of the most migrating dragonflies, so, it is called the nomad dragonfly! #EastCoastKin #MacroMonday #Dragonfly

Parthenay is a medieval town with beautiful streets from the middle age, of course, but with its preserved hedges, sometimes, you feel about a knight of the seven kingdoms...

A wine and cocktail bar just in front of a car park, that's very funny! And a bit dangerous too.

For #ForestFriday I'm coming back in the last days of last year when everything was frozen in the forest of Secondigny in french Poitou. #EastCoastKin
Panoramic view of frozen trees in a winter morning, there is also some smog so the branches are fading with the sky.

Three images are good, the first because snow is falling in front of the red paint, so it looks more pink. The second with the reflection of the mountain on the pond. And I'd prefer the last for the long exposure on the water and its vivid colours, its depth. So I'm not a robot!

When you're moving the camera during exposure, I think you can also change the colours, because accuracy don't have to apply in that case. But for identification of a plant or an animal, keep the true colour is necessary. So be creative and know your limits! Viennay quarry, Poitou, France. #ICM

#BlueBrewBooks This is the book I'm reading now, Féroce by Benoît Vincent. I don't think there is any translation for this French book. It is about the search of a forgotten book related to the apocalypse, in the same time, it's a naturalist journey. The next book will be the South, in English!

For #Stunday I have chosen an almost full moon from yesterday. The cold moon is tonight, but there are a lot of clouds now! A day before and a day after full moon, you have around 95 % of its light, and it's difficult to see a difference! #Scape #EastCoastKin

For these images, I tried to make the fall of this tree visible with a movement of my camera during the exposure. In Poitou this winter we have a lot of wind, but this was the only time with speed around 100 km an hour (62 miles) #ForestFriday #EastCoastKin #ICM

It's too cold now, even on BlueSky! So I'm giving you a golden #CloseUp It's a protected species in the lily family, Gagea bohemica or the early star of Bethlehem. And it will be flowering soon, at the beginning of February. #EastCoastKin #AlphabetChallenge #WeekCForCloseUp
A yellow flower from the Lily familly, Gagea Bohemica or the early star of Bethlehem is set alight by one one the last rays of the sun. It is surrounded by its threadlike leaves and everything is bathed in the golden glow of light.

The beginning of year was very #Cold now in western France it seems to be an early spring, especially if our weather is compared with that's occurring now in the US! #EastCoastKin #BlueskyArtShow
A snowy landscape at the beginning of the day. In the front only a few twigs are emerging from heavy clods of snow. Behind there are some trees above a short henge of brambles. Between the branches of the tallest tree, the sun is visible surrounded by a lot of thin rays. The sun is still low above the horizon.

Denis Olivier is a great photographer, he shoots in black and white very contrasted images. Some are very sharp realized with the best lenses. But he has a Holga too and he has a great talent to choose between these two cameras, each has its own personality!

Always for the #BlueMonday and the #BlueSkyMonday in the same time, something less depressing. It's a blue-eyed hawker, Aeshna affinis, taken in the moor of le Bourdet in French Marais Poitevin. #EastCoastKin #MacroMonday #AlphabetChallenge #WeekCforCloseUp

This day is told the to be the most boring day in the year, the "Blue Monday". To stay in the mood, lets discover a winter morning at Parthenay in french Poitou along the river le Thouet. #BlueMonday #Scape
A river landscape surrounded by trees. Almost everything is blue or dark in this image, except some rocks almost white at the bottom right. The atmosphere is dull and foggy, early in the morning.

Frozen weather is finished for now in Western France.Anyway, I kept a lot of images from this period. And the end of the month could be very cold again, so, be patient !
A lake in the cold in the morning the shore on the right is covered with hoarfrost with also some turfs totally white, even one in the water surrounded by ice. On the left most of the water is not frozen except in the back of the image. After the shore there are a lot of trees with a clear reflection on the watered left of the image.

Through the magical portal. Forêt de Secondigny, Deux-Sèvres, Poitou, France. #EastCoastKin #Scape #ForestFriday #ICM
A small tree has been curbed by the wind and is blocked by other trees forming a part of a circle several meters above the ground. On the ground another fallen branch is completing the vertical circle. Intentional Camera Movement creates a blurry impression as if you're crossing through a magical portal towards another place or dimension.

After Christmas the weather was very cold in France, that was also the case on January the first when I spent the morning in a botanical garden in Poitiers, France.
Dried Sequoia leaves cast in a frozen pound. There are some cracks in the ice and a small part is inclined above the horizontal surface. The dominant colour of the ice is dark.A lonely tree leaf is cast in the surface of a frozen pound. The dominant colour of the ice is between blue and black. There are some bubbles just below the surface.

And now, the view from the ruined house of 1947 I've just posted. It's near Parthenay in Poitou, France. #EastCoastKin #Stunday
A panoramic view of a meadow in the snow. On the left there is a well opening the scene towards a ruined garden shed covered by ivy and finally big trees in the back. The sky is grey and cloudy.

This is the house of my dream, "mon coup de coeur." It is a small farm built in 1947. To have inscribed the date tells it was a huge moment in the life of his builder. What was his life ? There's such a house in Capra's Its a wonderful life. #EastCoastKin #Stunday

"And whose beauty was more than human. But where are the snows of yesteryear?" "Qui beauté eut trop plus qu’humaine ? Mais où sont les neiges d’antan !" François Villon 1458 Parthenay, Poitou, France 6 janvier 2026
A meadow covered by the snow in the morning. The sky is blue except near the horizon covered by a golden mist. There are some bare trees in the back. Most of the image is occupied by tussocks covered by snow forming a lot of small hills. Some stalks are emerging from them.

In France, this year we have a "normal winter". That is to say in these times of global warming a winter that only arrives once in ten years! In about ten days we had a white Christmas, frozen lakes... That is perfect to wish you a happy new year! #EastCoastKin #Stunday
A lake, half frozen in the sunset. On the left, ice on the water is blocking the reflection of trees around the lake. On the right, the surface of the water is totally free.

As a protection against the cold, but for many other reasons, it's important to stay together. So happy New Year Eve ! Parthenaise cows in the snow, December 25th 2025.
A landscape of snow along a hill. In the rear there are several trees with a line of brambles between them. there are some cows behind these brambles to get protected against the wind.

I wish you a merry Christmas and I hope you had it white. That was the case here in french Poitou. But it's just one event in an important trend of global warming!
A path between two fiels bordered by some trees. Most of the grass is covered by snow.

On Saturday I finally succeeded in catching the fog! It was in Viennay, a small town in Poitou, France.
A black and white view of a lake. Most of the image is occupied by the sky, an empty zone between grey and white. On the bottom there is water. A lot of trees, some disappearing in the fog are around the lake. And on the right, there is a small island with a fallen tree in the middle.

This week I've run two times to catch the fog. Wednesday I missed it. But I took this image. It's near the lac du Cébron, in Poitou, France. And yesterday I succeeded to catch the fog, but that's another story... #EastCoastKin #Stunday
A line of tree in autumn. A lot of them are barren, except the last ones on the right which have still some brown leaves.

A few days ago I was totally impressed by a shot in Andreï Tarkovsky's Stalker. It's a movie about a room that can fulfill all your desires. But to reach it you need to be guided by a stalker, because it is very dangerous. And there was a shot of rocs covered by moss... I've made something else.

Murnau's Nosferatu for one of the most horrifying scenes I've ever seen: a field shaken by the wind! It was after a lot of tension and there you understand what suspense is.
