1 year anniversary of our paper about long-tailed duck tracking! It just so happen, that I saw a lot of wintering Long-tailed ducks during the @eoufledglings.bsky.social conference in Gdansk!

Session 8 at #EOU26 focused on biologging Thiemo Karwinkel, Susan Ellen McKinlay, Giovanna Sandretti da Silva, Ryan Boswarthick and Trevor MacLaurin on tracking movements, flight behaviour, survival, and tag effects. A lot of insight from these approaches—what stood out to you?

New Paper alert 📄 Rüppel et al. 2026 - "movetrack: An R package to model flight paths from radio-telemetry networks" -> this makes it possible to transform station-based radiotelemetry data into actual flight path, validated with a plane flight. besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

3rd anniversary of this paper: Karwinkel et al. 2022 "A magnetic pulse does not affect free-flight navigation behaviour of a medium-distance songbird migrant in spring" in JEB, where we tried to reproduce old studies on magnetoreception, but found no effects. A thread: doi.org/10.1242/jeb....

Today is the 1-year-anniversary of our extensive Review-Paper: "A conceptual framework on the role of magnetic cues in songbird migration ecology" doi.org/10.1111/brv.... - it is a must-read, when you work with magnetoreception and birds!

NEW PERSPECTIVE ARTICLE In a team combining bird and bat migration scientist with ecological economics, we draw attention on the threat of artifical light at night to migrating songbirds and bats to inform science-driven politics. See our article here: doi.org/10.1111/csp2...

Marine artificial light at night: Implications and potential hazards for offshore songbird and bat movements in the Greater North Sea
Human activity in the North Sea is intensifying, which amplifies the need to understand better the biological implications of human activities in the ecoregion. Here we aim to characterize the impact...

The first paper of your PhD is always so exciting! 🤩 An all-#Galbatross effort, "A focus on females can improve science and conservation!" See press release (www.audubon.org/news/researc...) and the study here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...! #FemaleBirds #FemaleBirdDay

In Research, Ignoring Female Birds Harms Scientific Understanding
A new study shows that ecological research often ignores or excludes data on female birds and behavior, resulting in erroneous assumptions on conservation.
