Like a mirage, the shape seemed just as fluid as the waves, impossible to discern anything other than an all-encompassing presence. His heart beat low and hard, single thumps that warned him never to dare leave the stalking sight. Buried under the fear however was something deeper, something even more primal than instinct, something close to curiosity that lured his own will against the reason he held dear.

A small, shuddering gasp left Kaoru’s lips, both prey and predator paralysed with opposing desires. “Kojiro…”

The same bow that always greeted him did so again but strained subtleties and harsher formalities had caution flare.
“What’s wrong?”
“I assure you, all is well Master Re-“
“Dude.” He levelled the man a look. “No more hiding stuff, remember?”
“It is a family matter sir.” Tadashi sighed but there was far too much weight in it.
A single breath held entire atmospheres, an impossibility, even if the air itself felt heavy with tension, buzzing with suspense like the night before a storm. Just waiting for the first clap of thunder.
Reki kept his end of their bargain, not prying into shit that wasn’t his business, no matter how on edge it left him. But the second he caught a glimpse through the door frame, his heart collided with his ribs.
“Now on to the more pressing matter dearest.” A near oppressive voice cooed from lips painted in scarlet “It’s high time you settled down with a bride worthy of the Shindo name.”

“A brid-“ He hushed himself right as he turned back to the safety of Tadashi, finding a stoicism he considered unwavering focused on the blank wall opposite them. The exchange had his own body tense, wound tight and nervous with paralyzing dread. Part of him found the concept of a person Tadashi feared to be impossible, but the rest of him, the parts that had grown closest to his equally impossible partners, entirely understood.
With an inhale that wasn’t spurred by bravery or curiosity, but rather a complete inability to do anything else, Reki dared to shift towards a better view.
Three women sat around a room they never used, each one occupying a seat at a grand mahogany table. Sharp eyes and sharper tongues, Reki knew the type. The kind of women who wore expensive perfume that clung to the back of your throat, stinging the same way as their insults. Half filled cups and napkins folded atop plates said they’d just finished eating, but the atmosphere said it was Ai they were chewing apart.

Taking inspiration from my favourite author and introducing you all to my beloved and very grumpy knight... Elyan Croft

A tall male knight in metallic plated armour across his shoulders and hips. Below is a thick quilted dublet and cloth trousers tucked into leather boots. His hair is a coarse medium length and tied back in a stubby ponytail. A leather belt acts as a holster for the sheath of his sword..

Any other creature would have fled, would have used an ability like this to escape at the first opportunity. Yes this rouge nymph, lingered amongst the trees like he was more intrigued than afraid. “I’d expect a seasoned knight to have at least a few battle scars,” That false modesty hung in the tune of his taunts but underneath was the muffled crunch of leaves “but you’re as pristine as fresh snow.” “That’s because I have never been bested.” Conviction had a smirk edge his normally sullen lips and an entire history of victories fire through his body until it moved in under a blink. Boots clad in metal swept the creature’s legs from under itself half way through the reappearance. A shocked seethe came as the Lampad’s back hit the ground, Elyan abused the stun’s lapse to drill his heel into the chest and his sword in front of eyes forced to cross in fear of the blade. His breath held as steady as his grip, wordlessly glaring at the captured foe as he made his decision. Slaying him would be simple but he had no guarantee it would put an end to the plague, nor was he certain that extinguishing a flame would cull it entirely. What he felt assured in however, was that innocence escaped the nymph far more easily than the boot crushing its ribs. “Tell me what you know.” He ordered. “I know a gentleman would ask far more nicely.” He was all too confident for a demon on the brink of death, but Elyan took to emotions a fraction slower than he ought to act. “and that my wit is as sharp as your blade.” Smoke collapsed in on itself, dropping Elyan’s foot though what was once solid. The imbalance stumbled him back, slipping against days old rain still trapped in the moss below. His body braced through his dismay. His back hit the ground with a clattering thud and each piece of his armour rang with the pain he now felt. “I thought you’d never been bested?$

Chapter 2 is up! Late entry for #SK8Kinktober2025 Day 23 Predator x Prey | Animal Traits | Marking | I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but thank you so much to the people who've read chapter 1! It means the world to see you all be so kind over something very much out of my comfort zone 😭💛🩶

Fear and those same instincts Reki spoke of launch him upright, following the theft to tower between the omegas’s thighs and force him back against the altar. Hands far bigger than the ones he captures hit the stone with a thud, pinning the consort down as the world
races to catch up with them.

“You’re like me?” Reki laughs ardently into Tadashi’s fearful breaths “You’re a hybrid!”

“Master Reki.” He pleads for himself, still holding the omega down like the thought alone weren’t a sin. “You must not-”

“I know.” He nods surely, never ceasing his smile “I won’t tell a soul I swear.”

His hands slip from where he’d captured the consort’s wrists, palming themselves together as if to clean them of the shame. He’d pinned the soon to be bride of his master, ensnared an omega he cannot claim, assaulted a rare being so beyond his reach he ought to feel lucky simply to share the same air as. Yet of all the fears, it is the concerns for his species being known that has him wish to pull the ears right from out of his head.

“I’m sorry, but I had to confirm it for myself.” Eyes catch his inaction with their own hint of remorse, before gently letting go of the stolen headpiece. “You're a dog hybrid, are you not?”

Dogs. Loyal, tamable hybrids capable of both guarding their masters whilst knowing their place is to heel behind. Despite the roles he’s been forced into, there are many within the walls who would shun the mere suggestion of a beast stepping into the courts. Further still there are enemies, opponents from within who hold no qualms with abusing the traits of a dog for their own advantage.

“How long have you suspected?” Tadashi stands up with a grunted frustration, scrunching fabric between his fists.

“Hah, I’ve been able to smell your pheromones since the moment you walked in.” Reki picks bashfully at the corner of his mouth, causing Tadashi's heart to skip between calming down and beating harder. “It's different from humans”

“I see.” His fingers uncurl around his now discarded hat, loosening with trepidation “Other hybrids, would they be able to tell too?”

“Most alphas are only concerned with scents they can marr with their own.” Red hair shakes from side to side as he cautiously sits up. “And with the rarity of hybrid omegas I-AH!.”

A flinch seethes Reki into a curse. His body tensing up, hand clenching hard around the fabric draping his lap, eyes hidden from the world by lashes wrecked with pain.

“Conubine Kyan!”
