Ben Johnson Jr. @thewriteben.bsky.social · 18/05/2025Plot and character are intimately and inseparably intertwined. Character drives plot, and plot challenges character. Plot isn't just narrative beats , in a larger sense, it's an overarching principle that holds everything together like magnetism. #BookishQOTD 📖🦋 #Booksky 💙📚 050

Ben Johnson Jr. @thewriteben.bsky.social · 16/05/2025I recall when I first studied screenwriting I had a woman in my class who was a TV station manager. She kept telling me I had no idea what I was doing because I worked in a hardware shop at the time. Years later, when I was running writing rooms she reached out to ask for a chance to write. Ben Johnson Jr. @thewriteben.bsky.social · 20/10/2023Guys, we need to help Rachel and her family. She is one of our own. If we can't take care of our own, who are we? Ben Johnson Jr. @thewriteben.bsky.social · 19/10/2023Having such a blast diving into the story development for my new project. Oh how sweet the honeymoon phase. Ben Johnson Jr. @thewriteben.bsky.social · 15/10/2023Submitted a script to my producers today that I began in Feb 22. I worked my❤️out for a year & submitted what I thought was a final draft in Feb 23. Then they said, what if your antagonist was your protagonist? That note broke both me & the script, but it also remade us, better. #screenwriting 030
Ben Johnson Jr. @thewriteben.bsky.social · 14/10/2023HORROR FILM RECOMMENDATION In keeping with Friday the 13th weekend, I took another crack at animation genius, Phil Tippett's stop motion horror masterpiece, MAD GOD. If you haven't seen this, it's sheer brilliance, but be warned, it's not for the fainthearted or those easily triggered. #film #horror 000
Ben Johnson Jr. @thewriteben.bsky.social · 14/10/2023Listen, if you can't be bothered to take the time to do something as simple as check your spelling & formatting before you submit a script, then you are telling the reader that you don't take a pride in your work, & that your script, possibly, isn't worth taking the time to read. #screenwriting 000
Ben Johnson Jr. @thewriteben.bsky.social · 14/10/2023Art can do far more than reflect the world we live in. It can reshape, redirect and redefine it. Your art matters. You are necessary as an artist. #writing #art #creativity 151
Ben Johnson Jr. @thewriteben.bsky.social · 13/10/2023About to wrap up a script journey of 20 months and incalculable rewrites, but boy am I pleased with the end result. Ben Johnson Jr. @thewriteben.bsky.social · 11/10/2023TYPICAL WRITING SESSION: Sit down. Open project on laptop. Check social media. Play with dog. Sandwich time. Write a mediocre sentence. Loo break.
