The Dems are basically a herd of single-issue cats that vaguely line up in the same direction. As someone seeing this from the outside, they're not even really that "left" by my country's standards, but more "center" to "center-right". I'm not even sure what their platform is. That's the problem.
000
The Werewolf @thewerewolf.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Well, first off, this isn't an actual counterargument. My criticising the Dems in no way means I support the GOP. My point was that the Dems aren't really effective as a political party. Second, being better than the worst doesn't actually make you good. Just less awful.
110
The Werewolf @thewerewolf.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
And it has to be pointed out that the Democrats have done little to fix these either (Obama was an exception, but got hamstrung by his own party) and since the US has effectively become a de facto two party state (even though nothing in the Constitution requires this), there are no other options.

No more so than the fact that the US is the only industrialised nation without national health care where the number one cause of personal bankruptcy is medical expenses. Or that allows "at will" hiring and firing. Or has a lower "tips" minimum wage. Or uses incarcerated people as slave labour.

much more an open trade and participation in mutual security arrangement - more like NAFTA+NATO but with the EU exclusively. That's a GOOD thing and long overdue. It's a pity (although hardly surprising) that Poilievre is using this to fear monger on the right. He has no other cards to play.

Yes, the only country that has ever attacked Canada was the USA. The only times one of our nations mobilized to defend the other was ALWAYS when Canada defended US military interests, not the other way around. And the only time NATO article 5 was enacted was for Canada et al to defend the USA.

The thing is, attacking us is a lose/lose/lose situation. It tells everyone else in the world your true nature. It puts you up against some of the most vicious fighters on the planet (the Geneva Conv was created to deal with Canadians and Poles). And if you "win"... we're now on the inside heh heh.
