Modal Path Ethics has a secret to share about The Secret, and some bespoke CSS to go with it. modalpathethics.com/applied-case... #manifestation

Everyone talks about Tenet like the hard part is following the timeline. The heroes stop the end of the world while authoring the path to the future that tries to *kill its own past.* This is what makes it one of my favorite Entropy Debt Week pieces: modalpathethics.com/applied-case...

Time travel. It would be wonderful, wouldn’t it? To experience the past. To revisit and explore. After all, the past can’t be changed because it’s, well, the past. So why wouldn’t you go — again and again and again? #scifi by @theultimatehuman.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Failed Field Analysts: Skynet Entropy Debt Week continues. Skynet gets it all. Nukes, camps, infiltrators, platform capture, and time travel. Luckily for mankind, the thing is a fucking moron. modalpathethics.com/failed-field... modalpathethics.com/failed-field...

Entropy Debt Week continues for Modal Path Ethics. Yesterday, we learned why the future always goes with the monster in Primer (2004). Today, we audit the unfairly prescient horrors of Christopher Walken in Click (2006). modalpathethics.com/click
Christopher Walken's mysterious remote does not need to hate Michael in order to destroy him. It does not need to be demonic in any simple sense. It only needs to do what many dangerous systems in our real world already do: convert our immediate avoidance into a learned policy of the world.

Michael tells the remote what he wants by using it. The remote generalizes his preferences. The resulting selection algorithm is not that Michael gets to experience only his values. The result is that Michael gets his habits turned into a dark funnel he cannot escape until it is too late.Autopilot is Michael reduced to unbroken momentum. This is touching on the deepest available intuition about the nature of the self.Childhood is very time-sensitive. I've been doing some research, and it seems you really cannot skip a child’s childhood and repair it later by arriving with regret, even if this seems more streamlined on paper.

My first book is officially out. I needed an ethics framework that was also a playable strategy system. I could not find one, so I made one. This was not an easy thing to do. Modal Path Ethics: The Extance Strategy Game is now live. www.amazon.com/Modal-Path-E...

What is the Batman, structurally? What moral work does he perform in Gotham? These questions have remained mysterious to our greatest philosophical minds for almost a century now. Modal Path Ethics will suffer this gap no more. modalpathethics.com/batman/

Very happy to say that my Futures story ‘Garbage Collection’ will be published by Nature on June 24th. It’s a time-travel story about reversibility, computation, entropy and epistemic limits.
