notes on SF6 throws because whoever yelled at me years ago to 'LOOK AT THE SCREEN WITH YOUR EYES' was actually onto something

obsidian note on SF6 throws with the following text:

THROW IS A DIAGNOSING TOOL

THROW CONNECTS
- NORMAL HIT
- opponent committed to taking the throw
- can still be hiding actions behind medium delay (delay button, delay jump, etc)
- COUNTER HIT
- opponent attempted to challenge
- either unfamiliar with your offense or trying to call out deeper layer options
- can be exploited harder with CH starter
- PUNISH COUNTER
- opponent perfect parried or used non-throw invul reversal
- large drive damage done here, opponent more likely to take risk in following interaction for safety

THROW TECHED
- IMMEDIATE TIMING
- opponent reacted to the setup and teched
- safest way to tech a throw although some characters can still shimmy w/ backdash
- loses to buttons (ideally with non-committal hitconfirm)
- DELAY TIMING
- BIG SHIMMY ALARM
- use next repetition of scenario to see if tech was intentional (albeit risky) or a bad habit

THROW WHIFFS
- MOVEMENT (BACKDASH/JUMP)*
- use post-throw input time to watch for jumps and have antiair ready if available
- use light normals for tick/chain offense to keep them grounded
- REVERSAL
- pay attention to drive situation afterwards (have they put themselves in range for burnout sequence?)
- introduce delay offense to bait reversals while maintaining turn (will open you up to timing-1 defense)

- walk speed
- midscreen oki (can combo meaty overhead without DR on certain enders)
- throw loop + shimmy character
- normals cover important startup breakpoints for punishes and footsies
- cancellable 2MK
- invincible OD reversal
- dp hitbox is incredibly consistent against weird air options

Cons
- problematically low damage (hard to justify when setplay/mix characters like Kim/AKI exist)
- key pokes are very stubby and will lose to standardised versions (e.g. 2MK vs shoto 2MK)
- no safe blockstring ender without engaging in mindgames or putting yourself pointblank at -3
- tough to navigate fireball-based neutral (PP or die)
- SA2 feels incomplete (setups easily parried, no fireball invul makes it near useless in neutral)

overall rating: character for freaks (me)/10"
