This is so apparent in the discourse around the prisons crisis. Any coherent debate on this needs to start with the question, how long does it take to build a new prison (5 - 7 years approx). And who was in charge then? Maddening Labour Ministers are still having to answer to this

The correct phone etiquette at gigs is to keep it in your pocket the whole time, but you are allowed to whip it out at one moment during the set to take one (1) photograph as a keepsake. Anything more than this is superfluous

The whooshing in my ears is why I love swimming though. It's the only way I switch my brain off. It brings my endless peace and I could do it for hours at a time.

Burnham must learn from Starmer’s mistakes: Labour was elected to transform the economy, not just stabilise it | Jonathan Portes
Devolution, tax, the EU and immigration: these are all opportunities for growth if Burnham abandons the excessive caution of the past few years, says economist Jonathan Portes

Normally things become clear in hindsight, but it was painfully obvious at the time that accepting Hunt's two NI cuts would sink the Starmer/Reeves political project below the water line. How different things could have been if they had the courage to reverse these on entering government

The REFUK leadership, including ex-Tory Cabinet ministers, know that they can call a howling mob out onto the streets any time they want. A mob led by wife-beaters, nonces and career criminals. A mob they sanctify as the true face of Britain. This must end soon, or it will end very badly.

The scene where Manion and Pearson rule out spouting right wing dogwhistle lines on migration in series 3 on the basis that it will make them appear too "nasty" I find so jarring to watch now, given where the Tory party has ended up on that particular debate

One of the worst comment pieces ever committed to print by the Graun. Riddled with fallacies, denialism and lazy, easily debunked misconceptions about the UK's place in the world and viable economic and policy choices available to it. How is this rube still on the payroll?

The one variable here is I don’t think there has ever been, in democratic times, an economic shock where you can point to a specific individual politician and go “it’s this guy’s fault”.

Trump is demonstrating the importance of credibility in international relations. He is not credible. He’s shown that others can’t trust what he says, and can’t act as if his stance will be the same tomorrow. He can’t communicate demands or make reliable offers. He made America’s word is worthless.
