It is dangerous to frame the AI race as being between American and Chinese AI. THERE IS NO AMERICAN AI. There are merely private AI companies headquartered in the US. They are one lucrative contract away from undermining US interests internationally. Chinese AI does not have this vulnerability.

I respect his trolling game. But I do not want him running for President, ever. He is too good at trolling, which is one of the least-valued traits in a leader.

I would love to see the Pentagon decide that renewable energy is a national security priority. Every military installation should be festooned with solar cells, bulk batteries made from common materials, and windmills.

The throughline here is that the Trump administration is investing the bulk of their planning around 2 objectives: 1. self-dealing 2. weaponizing taxpayer dollars against taxpayers Thus far, the Roberts Court has signed off on this agenda, meaning we have a lot of work ahead of us.

This is sloppy reporting. Uncle Nearest formed as a company in 2017; they're not even 10 years old yet, let alone 159. Their namesake goes back that far, but that's a marketing thing not a business reality. There is zero continuity between those two time periods.

While I would agree that it makes sense to move the story away from Hawkins, I was looking forward to a spin-off centered on Erica, Derek, and Holly, especially if the show-runners wait a few years for the characters to age into young adults. Then the '80s nostalgia show would become a '90s show.

Gee, it sure is good to know that Thune is not a 'big fan' of Trump's decision to use nearly $2 billion in taxpayer dollars to reward a bunch of insurrectionists. Maybe grow a spine there, buddy. Congress has the power of the purse; cut his access off.

Pro tip: you don't need to audit a person after you have seized all of their wealth and put them behind bars. Of course, in his case he needs to be in assisted living for dementia. Hopefully he ends up there before starting WWIII.

The only viable answer to Gerrymandering is to conduct massive get-out-the-vote operations and build the civic infrastructure needed to overcome barriers to voting. A big enough blue wave can defeat red Gerrymanders.

One can assume that he misheard the question and that Iran is the current albatross around his neck, barely covering up the Epstein stain. Even so, he is aging aggressively. Dementia takes no prisoners.

While I agree with Jost that Trump is determined to stay in office forever, the reality is that his brain won't last to 2028, let alone beyond that. Trump's cognitive decline in 2025 was visible; in 2026 it is undeniably accelerating. Dementia plateaus for short whiles, but it never gets better.

One possible challenge here is that you are packing a lot of diverse ideas into a single amendment. It might make sense to propose multiple amendments (e.g., an amendment reinforcing democracy against corrupt influences, and amendment clarifying the electoral process and codifying election day, etc.

Wax pencils are wrapped in paper or a similar substance that spirals - you peel away the wrapping to expose the tip. Like a crayon but with a harder, finer tip. Similarly, while most mechanical pencils rely on standard graphite rods, those are not the only option on the market.

Michael Sullivan @thesullivan.bsky.social · 07/05/2026
Not all pencils use graphite. Consider, for example, wax pencils.
000
Michael Sullivan @thesullivan.bsky.social · 07/05/2026
Thank you for the correction. I would add that a wax pencil does not have shavings. In addition, there are mechanical pencils that do not rely on gravity to feed the lead.

This is the risk of any "cracking" Gerrymander strategy - if you spread things too thinly, an opposing 'wave' election can flip the entire Gerrymander to favor the opposition. America is in a race to the bottom, with each side betting the other can't keep up. America should feel collective shame.

Wild speculation time. What if, instead of being a measure to improve optics heading into the midterms, this is a move by Wiles to keep a quorum available for emergency 25th Amendment actions? No, I don't seriously think that's the case, but I don't buy her midterm optics figleaf, either.

No doubt. It's not like the shaheds hitting Ukraine today are being launched from Tehran. Moreover, it's not like shaheds are the only drone options Iranians might use for drone attacks. There are plenty of commercial options on the local US market they could weaponize.

Registered Democrats already outnumber registered Republicans in Texas - 46% to 38%, with the remainder being independents. Republicans have been able to rely on the conservative lean of Texas independents to maintain Republican power in Texas, but they're gradually losing that battle.

Sure, public polling matters, but we should also take into consideration what experts have to say. And they also think this conflict is ill-advised. The US will not benefit from the conflict, though Israel probably will.

Congress's refusal to provide oversight of Trump's random invasions seems ill-advised. If they support an American war with Iran, they should pass a measure to formally approve it. If they do not, they are Constitutionally obligated to put a stop to it. Their behavior is an abdication of duty.

We're running out of anti-missile munitions. This will hurt Israel the most, but it will also mean that US forces will have to retreat from the region or suffer escalating casualty rates. Assuming, of course, Iran can survive longer than defensive munitions last.

Michael Sullivan @thesullivan.bsky.social · 04/03/2026
One can guess that Iran is not producing missiles at peak capacity any more and that their capacity will further degrade as Hegseth's crusade goes on, but will it drop down to 5-7 per day? That's quite a gamble.
