I don't want to do both, because that's way too much work. Just doing the 1st stage, that's already 27 character designs. That's so many!! I considered a happy medium of "design the character based on the 1st stage, and their outfit on the final stage" but it felt like a mid compromise tbh

I've been going back and forth for *literal months* trying to figure out if I'm gonna do the 1st stage starters, or the final stage. 1st stages are cuter, better suited for chibis, more recognizable/iconic. BUT final stages give me WAY more to work with for humanized designs

Very "as you know..." -style worldbuilding that is being told only so the audience can absorb the information. The characters already know all the info, so there's no need for them to be saying the things they're saying, except that the Omnipresent Audience needs to learn it. I'm allergic to this

I read the first chapter of one yesterday, and I won't describe the actual story to avoid throwing the creator under the bus, but it was just... SO tell-heavy. All the important plot info was delivered by characters standing around and talking to each other about things they already knew.

An alternative would be to just add a tag to the account like "FAKE" or "SPAM" to make sure it's functioning correctly without deleting any actual customers. But once I figured out the automation worked I switched it to kill mode 😅

Other common spam accounts had names and emails, but no home address. Joining via my newsletter form wouldn't register a name, and joining via making a purchase would log a user's address. So if they had a name but no physical address, it was most likely a scammer.

Thousands of the spammers were using the same handful of fake addresses, so I downloaded a spreadsheet of all my subscribers, figured out what addresses they were using, and put those into an automation. If a new customer was registered that had any of those addresses, it kills 'em dead

That didn't stop the new customer accounts from being made, though- so I set up a few Flow automations (it's a free shopify app). I basically looked at the format the scammers had and, if a new "customer" matches the format, it deletes the account.

Step 1 is turning on "confirm mailing list subscription" on in settings- it sends people an email to confirm they want to be added to the mailing list, and spambots obvs won't click it. So it stops spammers from being sent your marketing emails and wasting your email credits

I'd consider moving my mailing list elsewhere but unfortunately, it seems like a lot of platforms charge per member, and not per email sent. And my mailing list has enough people to be in the highest cost tier for most platforms 😬 Shopify is free at least

Thanks to Shopify's profound lack of spam control, guess who just spent the last few days unsubscribing >10k spambots from her mailing list? 🫠 I think I've found a way to curb 99% them, thankfully, and a workaround for bulk deleting them even shopify support didn't know about. I am at peace again
