It was really cool to be able to chat with DJ Nocturna in this video-interview and focus on the three discs of A Cornucopia while ranging much further afield too youtube.com/watch… there is plenty to say about a project as wholistic as this with a 35th anniversary year too.

Hello. Seeing as things are blowing up here a bit, here’s a refresher, MUSICnGEAR said our new single Artificial Paradise is “a lush blend of indie rock and danceable power pop” which neatly sums that one up, but the album is a hugely diverse 38 track three disc set so there is masses to explore.

A review from music n gear of our new single Artificial Paradise calling it a lush blend of indie rock and danceable power pop” the text of the review is placed on the album sleeve, which features an astronaut with flowers reflected in his visor. On his left shoulder are the goddesses Minerva, Victory and Bounty (also the names of the individual discs that make up the three album set) while the five band members peer over his right shoulder. A purple hue permeates the sky with a red moon and a giant sunflower.

35 years since this particular musical voyage of discovery, experimentation & boundary pushing started. 17th September 1989. We recorded the 1st EP on old technology. The Berlin Wall was still up & no internet. A different world. We’re still here. Still making independent music & still enjoying it!

The master tape from the recording session in 1989, 35 years ago today. One day, four songs. 15 ips.

“A wonderfully ambitious and so good new album”

“we can expect Power Pop, even Indie Pop... The Speed Of Sound is clearly digging into that... but not only that!
So not!
We can also find in their music elements from New Wave, Indie 90, Post Punk, Art Rock, Baroque Pop…
With some cinematic elements, and sometimes lush and complex arrangements, always at the service of the SONG!”

“adds the innocence of Television Personalities to the inventiveness of Bowie in a unique music that stands out from everything and sticks to you!!!”

An extended arm reaches fora glass of champagne in the sleeve photo for the Trickledown single artwork

“Taking into consideration all 3 singles previewed to date, it’s clear that the sonic kaleidoscope presented on The Speed of Sound’s new album is worth the wait – a musical compass in a direction we should all explore.”

“With a measured pace, a sense of spaciousness and Crowley’s unique vocals, we arrive at a sound recalling a more chilled-out Jefferson Airplane.”

Thanks to PopRock Record for ‘totally getting’ Minerva: poprockrecord.com/2024/05/20/p...

“Talk about an aptly named album. The Speed Of Sound’s ‘A Cornucopia: Minerva’ really is a buffet-style serving if multiple music styles. There’s a bit of Bo Diddley boogie, Velvet Underground swagger, and 60s melodious beat - and thats just in the first thee cuts. John Armstrong and Ann-Marie Crowley share vocal duties in a creative tension in nearly all the songs, the former pulling in an Anglo-Lou Reed direction, the latter evoking an Alison Moyet pop confidence. With 14 songs here there’s plenty to choose from in terms of highlights. Personally I’m drawn to the straightforward poprock efficiency of ‘Clickbait’ with its slight snarl. ‘Yet Another Tuesday’ sounds like a punked-up Monkees to me. However, my fave is undoubtedly ‘Question Time’. I love the multiple guitar hooks as well as the spot-on lyrical sentiment.”
