This spiked ring is attached to calves to stop them from nursing since dairy milk is "more valuable" to humans than to day old cows. “Free range” cows suffer from pests as much as horses, but don’t get the same protective clothing or shelter. These cows ran from us even though cows are normally affectionate and loving; they hadn’t experienced human kindness. Meat makes us complacent to suffering.
