🚨 COURT: LEE YONGHAK REMAINS A MAJOR SHAREHOLDER OF 143 ENTERTAINMENT

In its ruling on the lawsuits filed by two MADEIN members against 143 Entertainment, the Seoul Central District Court rejected Lee Yonghak’s claim that his resignation meant he was no longer involved with the group.

The court explicitly stated that Lee Yonghak remains a major shareholder of 143 Entertainment and is still in a position to exercise direct or indirect influence over MADEIN’s activities and operations.

The court also recognized that the members could reasonably feel significant anxiety and concern that similar inappropriate incidents could happen to them in the future.

This was among the reasons the court determined that the trust relationship between the members and 143 Entertainment had been destroyed, making it difficult to maintain their exclusive contracts.

📌 From the court’s ruling:

“Lee Yonghak, as a major shareholder of the company, remains in a position to exercise direct or indirect influence over the group’s activities and operations.”

The company has appealed the ruling, meaning the case will proceed to a second trial.

[EXCLUSIVE] Agency CEO Gave 1 Million Won to Minor Idol for a “One-Day Relationship”… Court Also Rules in Favor of Other MADEIN Members Source: n.news.naver.com/article/016/...
[EXCLUSIVE] Agency CEO Gave 1 Million Won to Minor Idol for a “One-Day Relationship”… Court Also Rules in Favor of Other MADEIN Members

Two members of girl group MADEIN have won a civil lawsuit against their agency, 143 Entertainment, after seeking to have their exclusive contracts declared invalid.

The two members had already begun taking legal action to leave 143 Entertainment before the latest court ruling.

In December 2024, one member filed an injunction seeking to suspend the validity of her exclusive contract with the agency. In May 2025, another member filed a separate injunction seeking the same.

Their requests were subsequently granted: the first member’s injunction was granted in April 2026, while the second member’s was granted in July 2026.

The two members then continued with their main civil lawsuit, asking the court to officially confirm that their exclusive contracts with 143 Entertainment were no longer valid.

On June 17, 2026, the Seoul Central District Court ruled in their favor, determining that the relationship of trust between the members and the agency had been destroyed to the point that continuing the exclusive contracts was no longer reasonable.

The court ruled that the agency’s CEO had engaged in “extremely inappropriate conduct that a representative should never engage in,” and determined that the members had legitimate reasons to fear that similar incidents could happen to them. This comes after another MADEIN member, Gaeun, previously accused the company’s CEO of sexual harassment and filed a separate legal case against the agency. Her request to suspend the validity of her exclusive contract was also recently granted.

Members sought to terminate their contracts

According to legal sources on August 9, the Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Division 46, presided over by Judge Kim Hyeong-cheol, ruled on June 17 in favor of two MADEIN members who had sued 143 Entertainment.

The members had asked the court to confirm that their exclusive contracts with the agency were no longer valid. The court ruled in their favor and ordered 143 Entertainment to cover the legal costs.

The court concluded that the relationship of trust between the members and the agency had been damaged to the point that it was no longer reasonable to expect the contracts to continue.

It also determined that restoring that trust in the future would be difficult.

CEO admitted to meeting a member for a “one-day relationship”

The controversy surrounding 143 Entertainment dates back to November 2024, when MADEIN member Gaeun publicly accused the agency’s CEO of sexual harassment.

According to recordings that were made public at the time, the CEO told Gaeun, “My wish is for you to be my girlfriend for one day.”

Gaeun alleged that she was subjected to sexual harassment and inappropriate physical contact while she was still a minor.

143 Entertainment denied the allegations at the time, calling them “completely untrue” and claiming that it possessed evidence proving the allegations were false. The dispute eventually became public, and the agency later announced Gaeun’s departure from MADEIN, citing “personal circumstances” that made it difficult for her to continue group activities.

Court finds CEO’s conduct “extremely inappropriate”

In its ruling regarding the other two members, the court specifically addressed the CEO’s conduct toward the member who had made the allegations.

The court stated that the CEO himself acknowledged that he had agreed to have a “one-day romantic relationship” with the member, watched a movie and had a meal with her, subsequently gave her 1 million won (approximately US$730) privately, and that inappropriate physical contact had occurred.

The court emphasized that such behavior was unacceptable from someone responsible for managing and protecting artists.

“This was extremely inappropriate conduct that should never be engaged in by someone who has an obligation to protect and support artists under their management.”

Although the two members who filed the lawsuit were not themselves the direct victims of the alleged conduct, the court said they could reasonably have feared that something similar could happen to them.

The court noted that the members were young women who had only recently reached adulthood when the allegations emerged.

“They could sufficiently have experienced concerns and anxiety that similar inappropriate conduct could occur to them. This is a natural reaction according to social norms.”

The court also considered the actions of one member’s father, who confronted the CEO during the controversy and questioned whether he could entrust his daughter to someone who had behaved in such a manner.Court also recognized damage to the group’s reputation

The court pointed out that an idol group’s public image and reputation are particularly important to its activities.

Because the allegations had been widely reported by television programs, news outlets, and other media, the court determined that the members’ public image and reputation had been significantly damaged.

It also stated that restoring that reputation would likely be difficult.

Ruling is currently under appeal

The June ruling is not yet final.

143 Entertainment appealed the decision on July 6, and the case is currently pending before the Seoul High Court.

Meanwhile, Gaeun’s separate request to suspend the validity of her exclusive contract with 143 Entertainment was also granted.

The Seoul Central District Court accepted her injunction application on July 31, determining that the CEO had violated the agency’s obligation to protect and support its artist. The court also found that there was insufficient evidence that the agency intended to properly continue providing management to her.

As a result, all three members who sought legal action against 143 Entertainment have now received favorable court decisions regarding their exclusive contracts, although the ruling involving the two members remains subject to appeal.

[PRESS RELEASE] Court Grants Preliminary Injunction Suspending Exclusive Contract in the 143 Entertainment Lee Yonghak Sexual Assault Case Full press release from the Hanbit Center: hanbit.center/news3/?idx=1...
Court Grants Preliminary Injunction Suspending Exclusive Contract in the 143 Entertainment Lee Yonghak Sexual Assault Case

[Press Release]

• Court grants the victim’s request for a preliminary injunction suspending the effectiveness of her exclusive contract. A just and expected decision.
• More than 900 people submitted a petition calling for strict punishment of the perpetrator. The criminal trial must proceed without delay.

Last April, the Hanbit Media Labor Human Rights Center (hereinafter “Hanbit Center”) held a press conference bringing public attention to the case involving allegations that Lee Yonghak, CEO of 143 Entertainment, sexually assaulted a member of one of the agency’s idol groups.

On July 31, the Seoul Central District Court granted the victim’s application for a preliminary injunction suspending the effectiveness of her exclusive contract with 143 Entertainment. The decision comes more than a year after the full details of the case first became public.

Lee Yonghak, founder and Executive Producer of 143 Entertainment (also known by the stage name Digital Masta), allegedly subjected the victim—who was a minor at the time—to three hours of verbal abuse and intimidation under the pretext of discussing the continuation of her group activities. During that time, he allegedly committed acts of forcible molestation and sexual harassment. Afterward, Lee Yonghak signed a written statement admitting wrongdoing to the victim’s parents and promised to step away from the entertainment industry, but none of those promises were kept.

Rather than protecting its artist, 143 Entertainment forcibly removed the victim from her group. Even after doing so, the company continued to maintain the outrageous position that her exclusive contract remained valid. The court’s decision to suspend the effectiveness of the exclusive contract is both justified and appropriate. The court found that Lee Yonghak’s conduct was not only “behavior that a director of a company with a duty to protect and support its artists should never engage in,” but also pointed out that “there is no evidence that the company has, to this day, any intention of carrying out management duties on behalf of the creditor (the victim).” Based on these findings, the court concluded that suspending the effectiveness of the exclusive contract was necessary.

143 Entertainment failed entirely to protect the victim and has shown no willingness to support her. Under these circumstances, insisting on maintaining the exclusive contract serves no purpose other than to keep the victim tied to the company, interfere with her future, and continue causing her harm. We also hope the court will reach a prompt and fair decision in the main lawsuit seeking the termination of the exclusive contract.

The criminal proceedings against Lee Yonghak are still ongoing, and the case has now been forwarded to the prosecution. Last June, the Hanbit Center submitted a petition signed by more than 900 individuals and 8 organizations, calling for a swift investigation and severe punishment. Fans from 22 countries also joined the petition campaign, demonstrating the widespread domestic and international concern surrounding this case.

Despite these developments, the alleged perpetrator was seen accompanying one of the company’s boy groups to a concert in Japan on August 1, as confirmed through social media. While the victim—whose career was at one of its most important stages—has had to put her dreams on hold to focus on recovery because of this incident, the alleged perpetrator continues to work in the entertainment industry without meaningful restrictions. To correct this deeply unjust situation, the criminal proceedings must also move forward swiftly.

We once again welcome the court’…

We have seen questions regarding why the boycott of 143 Entertainment remains ongoing following the appointment of a new CEO. We would like to clarify our position. #BOYCOTT143ENT #WeStandWithMADEIN #143은설명하라
Why the boycott of 143 Entertainment continues? We have seen questions regarding why the boycott of 143 Entertainment remains ongoing following the appointment of a new CEO. We would like to clarify our position.

The boycott has never been solely about Lee Yong-hak's title or position within the company. It is about the actions of 143 Entertainment as an organization and its failure to protect artists, address labor concerns, and take accountability for its conduct.

Following the public disclosure of allegations against former CEO Lee Yong-hak, 143 Entertainment repeatedly defended him in official statements. Rather than acknowledging the seriousness of the situation or addressing the company's own responsibilities, 143 asserted that there were "factual discrepancies" in the allegations and maintained that "the truth would be revealed." At no point did the company issue a meaningful apology for its handling of the matter or acknowledge the harm caused by its actions.

Another unresolved issue is the victim's contractual status. In May 2026, Hanbit Media Labor Rights Center stated that the victim still remained under an exclusive contract with 143 Entertainment while encouraging supporters to sign petitions calling for a swift investigation. Hanbit stated:

"For the victim's daily life to be restored, a swift investigation, punishment, and the termination of the exclusive contract must be carried out promptly. To this end, the investigative authorities and the court need to expedite this series of procedures."

This remains a significant concern because one of Hanbit's demands following the public disclosure of the case was the termination of the victim's exclusive contract with 143 Entertainment. As of May 2026, this issue remained unresolved.

Concerns regarding 143 Entertainment extend beyond this case. Hanbit Media Labor Rights Center has publicly condemned the company for its handling of unpaid wages and production fees owed to staff and collaborators. According to Hanbit, 143 Entertainment was aware ofthese issues and failed to take appropriate action. The organization further criticized the company for passively allowing its CEO to commit crimes against an underage artist while neglecting its responsibilities as an entertainment agency.

Questions also remain regarding the individuals who continue to hold positions of influence within the company. Former 143 Entertainment A&R leader Heo Yujeong publicly called out both Lee Yong-hak and Director Park Jun-sang through an Instagram story, writing:

"To the perpetrators who made the victim cry:

143 Entertainment
CEO Lee Yong-hak
Director Park Junsang —

Come to your senses and
compensate the victim!"

As far as we are aware, Park Jun-sang remains involved with 143 Entertainment. The continued presence of individuals connected to these events raises concerns about whether meaningful institutional change has occurred.

Additionally, transparency remains a significant issue. Official statements have been altered or removed, including the company's announcement regarding Lee Yong-hak's departure. This pattern has contributed to ongoing uncertainty and has further eroded public trust.

The appointment of a new CEO does not, by itself, resolve these concerns. Leadership changes are only meaningful when accompanied by accountability, transparency, and concrete corrective action. To date, 143 Entertainment has not adequately addressed the issues that prompted this boycott.

For these reasons, TheSevenPact continues to support the boycott of 143 Entertainment. We remain committed to advocating for accountability, justice for those harmed, the resolution of labor disputes, and meaningful reforms that prioritize the safety, dignity, and rights of artists and workers.

Until these concerns are properly addressed, we do not believe that the circumstances which led to this boycott can be considered resolved. We encourage everyone to review the available sources and draw their own conclusions based on the documented evidence.

NEWS Koji Masai, Chairman of Masai Holdings, a Korean-Japanese entertainment IP investment company, has been appointed as the new CEO of 143 Entertainment. Source: m.entertain.naver.com/home/article... #BOYCOTT143ENT #WeStandWithMADEIN #143은설명하라
Koji Masai, a major shower of Shinhan Bank, took office as the chairman of 143 Entertainment

[Sports Seoul Reporter Ham Sang-beom] Chairman KOJI MASAI, who leads MASAI Holdings, an entertainment IP investment company in Korea and Japan, has taken office as the new chairman of 143 Entertainment. On July 20, 143 Entertainment announced that it had signed a Strategic Investment Agreement (MOU) with Chairman Masai and would begin actively pursuing a mid-to-long-term growth strategy focused on expanding its artists’ intellectual property (IP).

Chairman Masai is a Korean-Japanese businessman known in Korea as a major shareholder of Shinhan Bank. Through his real estate and investment businesses, he has consistently shown interest in the entertainment industry, particularly by supporting Korean artists’ activities in Japan and expanding cultural business initiatives.

While we recognize this as a potentially positive development, it does not resolve the company’s existing issues. Park Junsang, who has been identified by the victim’s representatives as complicit in the alleged abuse of a former minor member, remains involved with the company. The victim is also still bound by a strict exclusive contract with 143 Entertainment.

It is also important not to overlook that 143 Entertainment remains under police investigation following allegations of abuse, while separate legal complaints regarding unpaid wages are still ongoing. We believe these serious matters deserve continued attention and careful consideration, regardless of changes in the company’s leadership.

We sincerely hope this leadership change marks the beginning of meaningful progress. That includes full accountability, the removal of Park Junsang from the company, a transparent and public apology to the victim, meaningful remedies for the victim, and concrete actions that prioritize the safety, dignity, and rights of all artists.

The boycott remains in effect until these demands are met. A change in leadership alone does not resolve the serious concerns surrounding 143 Entertainment. We will continue to advocate for accountability, justice for the victim, and meaningful reforms that ensure the safety, dignity, and rights of all artists.

It’s been many months since there’s been any update on the Gaeun/MADEIN/143 Entertainment situation, and it’s notably been about 15 months since Gaeun filed a lawsuit against former company CEO Lee Yong Hak for sexual harassment. Recently though, it’s been brought to my attention that all this time Gaeun has apparently been contractually tied to …

This is the response we received from the organizers. To be clear, the issue is not with the artists themselves. The issue is with continuing to platform and financially benefit a company that is currently under legal investigation over abuse allegations involving a former MADEIN member. The +
Hi there,

Thank vou for your message and for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

As the organizers, we keep a close eye on news and information about all of the artists and partners connected to the event. At the same time, we try to base our decisions on verified information and the official statements of the parties involved.

Based on the information currently available to us, the person the allegations were directed at is no longer involved in managing the group. In our view, the artists themselves shouldn't have to bear the consequences of someone else's actions. We want to give them the chance to meet their fans, share their music, and keep building their careers. We also believe that in a situation like this, showing support for the group's members matters more than ever.

Thank you once again for sharing your perspective with us. Every fan's opinion matters to us, and yours will be taken into account in our internal review and as we plan future events.

All the best,
The K-POP EXPOSE Team

Festivals and organizers should be held accountable for who they choose to support and platform.
