Tasting The View

I pause upon this winding path
A brief halt to drink in the view
The swelling sweep of sweet and sour
My efforts have paddled all through
Scores of lives from sticks to cities
Have blended to flavour the brew
Some all hazy, others burst forth
Some savoured and others to chew
Back to the path I turn to walk
Before I let myself get stewed
More than a sip of this vista
Path narrows and branches seem few?

Take another sip
Warmth of the embrace
Clouds obscure the sun
But not it's light and grace
Savour the last taste
Mind turns to the day

Not a lot of time today to write anything from scratch. Here is one I wrote about 5 years ago. Turns out it took almost as long to tweak an old one as it did to write from scratch. I know tautologically named geographical features are quite common but the thought of it gives me a chuckle. #poetry

The Path

In the midst of mist-wreathed trees
I think they have their backs to me
With stiff gait from fear of thorns
That bid me stay 'til mulch reborn
Now and then a glimpse of sun
I hope for wings but know it's dumb
In the mist, those eyes could kill
I hold myself to ward that chill

A journey set to find my truth
For purpose, beauty, passion
To be kind, love, to cheer and soothe
Find friendships without ration
Try as I might to hold my path
I know these woods have changed me
My armour may deflect the wrath
It also binds this debris

Old Church Hall, Duke Street, Leith, Edinburgh. This church hall was built in 1907, replacing an earlier hall constructed just 29 years earlier. It stands out a bit in Edinburgh as it's Edwardian Free Style design is more commonly seen in Glasgow. #Leith

Mariner's Church, Dock Street / Commercial Street, Leith, Edinburgh This old church was built between 1839 & 1840 to provide sailors with an alternative to the floating church in Leith harbour. It was designed by Edinburgh architect John Henderson. 1/2.

Custom House, Leith, Edinburgh. This Georgian construction was built between 1810 and 1812. As with all dockside custom houses it was built to collect taxes on goods entering and leaving Leith Harbour. As you can see it was designed as a grand and commanding building to convey its importance.

Lamb's House, Leith, Edinburgh This merchant's house is a picturesque example of 17th century harbour town architecture. A grade-A listed building that has seen several conservationist face-lifts over the years and been saved from demolition more than once. 1/3 #leith
