A lot of people have asked me what the name "Beige Party" means. I now present the definitive explanation:

A panel from Grant Morrison's run on Doom Patrol. Crazy Jane (though it's actually her "Flit" personality) holds her ears and grits her teeth in anguish as she is assaulted by the words, "DADA! DADA! DADA!" Each written larger than the next with increasing loopiness. "OH GOD!" She says, "OH GOD! OH GODD" The final "OH GODD" is literally spilling out of her speech bubble.

For context she's trying to stop the fifth horseman of the apocalypse (Extinction) from escaping an infinitely recursing painting and laying waste to the universe by leading him into the realm of Dada within the painting because his powers derive from the symbolism and meaning at the heart of every other art movement. I get it, Hergé, I got a little too into nuclear reactors once too...

An excerpt from Destination Moon by Hergé. Tin Tin, Professor Calculus, and Captain Haddock are dressed in orange hazmat suits and Calculus is explaining the nuclear reactor he uses to make plutonium to fuel his nuclear powered rocket.

Calculus: Good. Now, back to the pile again. At this moment they are putting in a rod of uranium: uranium containing about 99% of U.238 and only 1% of radioactive U.235. Now what happens when the uranium is inside the pile?

Calculus: Well...When an atom of U.235 splits, it releases two or three neutrons. One or other of these will be absorbed by and atom of U.238, which will thus be transmuted to plutonium...But those other neutrons...where will they go?...

Haddock: Yes...I'm worried about them...

Continuing the comic from the first image:

Calculus: Restricted by the graphite that surrounds them, they continue through the pile, and end up by hitting one of the rare atoms of U.235. These in turn split and release two or three neutrons again...You see?

Haddock: Of course! It's child's play...

Calculus: But this process has to be controlled. Thanks to the cadmium rods which absorb a proportion of the neutrons, we can regulate the working of the pile as we wish.

Today I needed a silent Monday. Here's some stuff I saw.

Three conifers against a clear blue sky. The middle tree is tallest, the one on the left is shortest and the one on the right is in the middle (height-wise). Directly above the tree on the left is a waning gibbous moon, visible in the daytime. In the foreground are some bare brown branches of deciduous trees.

A wooden telephone pole that looks to have been repurposed to house some kind of bird or insect boxes. There are no wires but two narrow wooden boxes can be seen on either side near the top. Bare deciduous trees are in the background and the ground is covered in frost. Four small pink plastic surveying flags have been placed in the ground around it. To the right is a trail sign. The telephone pole is leaning slightly to the right.

A row of bee boxes for native mason bees. They are wooden boxes on poles about three feet off the ground with peaked A-frame roofs and chicken wire grates over the open front to allow mason bees in but keep non-bee creatures out. These ones are mostly empty but when in use the houses contain several wooden tubes for the bees to nest in. The houses are in an open field bordered by an old wooden fence. Several conifers can be seen in the background, along with the bare branches of deciduous trees.
