My new paper introducing Norellraptor barbsboldi, an exquisitely preserved microraptorine, with implications on flight evolution among paravians (bird-like dinosaurs) and microraptor developmental biology.

Independent assembly of the flight apparatus in a non-avian dinosaur clade - Nature Communications
Microraptorines were bird-like dinosaurs that possessed some flight adaptations. A new fossil species from the early Cretaceous, Norellraptor barsboldi, suggests that this group evolved their own flig...

The premaxillae and tip of dentaries are missing in the original skull, so the original snout was a somewhat longer than what the cast shows.

The suberb preservation of the Shri rapax specimen: the bones forming the pelvic canal are still three-dimensionally articulated. The blue line links the thorax with the tail along both pubic and ischial canals.

In the paper published yesterday, we showed that Deltadromeus is an immature morph of the same dinosaur named Bahariasaurus. One fossil described in 1934 directly links the two genera. Accordingly, the only valid name is Bahariasaurus.

Glad I had my PhD 10 years after the Master degree so I was old enough for being sufficiently detached from most academic illusions. Yet, toxic people were there as elsewhere. But I also met some nice people who become friends of mine. That said, now I'm an independent researcher and happy to be so.
