Oh very. It's such a shame too, like, I'm not actually opposed at all to the creature itself, I think it's a good step towards beneficial ambiguity for a brand living under the weight of Aliens' ideas, but pretty much all the circumstances that led to it could have been handled better any other way.

While I appreciate it having the alien continue to do mysterious new stuff, making it less knowable and more weird, and the first segment of the film really working character and setting-wise, all of the moving pieces it had just did not fit together as desired, and yeah the nostalgiabait was agony.

Having seen the source films now I find myself in a strange position: The originals are on their own better films, but the digimon characterization is I feel stronger in this version. Diablomon for example is actually a tragic character in this, but is basically a nonverbal beast in Our War Game.

Hot take, but Betterman (1999). I was so pumped for it at the start, the designs and vibe were great. However, as it progressed and its thematic angles solidified, it became more clear that it was not going to be a good time, and I often regretted starting. The crossover novel fixed that a bit tho.
