I think my computer sticker says it all. "Never forget that Jesus was a brown-skinned healer, who empowered women, destroyed religious systems, loved the rejected, opposed our fascinations with power, and flipped the tables of oppression. His mission was neither lights, stages, nor influence."

Alleviating stress and celebrating the fact that Friday the 13th falls on Jason Voorhees’ birthday this year by marathoning my steelbooks while #knitting. If anyone could point me to a Mrs. Voorhees sweater pattern, that would be fabulous. #horrorsky #fridaythe13th
A photo of the backs of the first three Friday the 13th steelbook covers. They read “Kill her Mommy kill her!”, “You’re doomed! You’re all doomed!” and “Be right back…”

"Socrates said, "The misuse of language induces evil in the soul." He wasn't talking about grammar.
To misuse language is to use it the way politicians and advertisers do, for profit, without taking responsibility for what the words mean. Language used as a means to get power or make money goes wrong: it lies. Language used as an end in itself, to sing a poem or tell a story, goes right, goes towards the truth. A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well they strengthen their souls. Story-tellers and poets spend their lives learning that skill and art of using words well. And their words make the souls of their readers stronger, brighter, deeper."

"We should measure the prosperity of a nation not by the number of millionaires, but by the absence of poverty, the prevalence of health, the efficiency of the public schools, and the number of people who can and do read worthwhile books."

Reposting because I neglected to add the alt text to the image: Keep paying attention and being loud about it. bookshop.org/a/6560/97803...
"You would phone a friend one day," Jean-Paul Sartre recalled, "and the telephone would ring and ring in the empty apartment; you would ring the doorbell and he would not come to the door; if the concierge broke in, you would find two chairs drawn up together in the hallway with German cigarette ends between the legs." Jews, Communists, members of the Resistance-anyone denounced as an enemy of the Third Reich—was at risk of a sudden arrest and deportation.”

Quote: Choose freedom. Choose the freedom of living loved, far from their debates and fence lines and name callings, and the belittling, divisive stereotypes. Extend the gift of freedom and grace, second chances, and more grace, just as you have received them. As E. E.
Cummings wrote, it takes courage to grow up and turn out to be who you really are. Live counterculturally when the culture, baptized or secular, does not affirm truth, love, faith, mercy, and justice.

One of my favorite photos from last year’s visit to the National Cathedral, taken in the crypt after I received communion. It looks like anticipation feels to me. It also looks like Tori Amos and @hozier.bsky.social sound, if that makes sense. The crypt felt like home; I wish I were there still.
Two stone columns surround a dark recess, which is roped off. It contains red velvet curtains, an upright piano, and, behind the piano, organ pipes in the dark.

Rob Fee Q @robfee post:

If you claim to be a Christian and you're not outraged over America's treatment of immigrants, you're a hypocrite.
Source: UH, THE BIBLE
When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. (Leviticus 19:33-34)tchaikovskaya post:

christian thought in its original form is about defending and sympathizing with the most powerless members of our society and i think its one of the greatest tragedies in human history that something like that was so thoroughly corrupted and weaponized by the very people it was supposed to fight against

Stand up against what’s going on. That’s love. Remember Jesus didn’t just flip tables in the temple, he took the time to fashion a whip first. He also said “Did I stutter?” when he was challenged on this (John 8:43). 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️♿️ Exclusionary American theology is *dangerous*, and it isn’t Christianity.
the-transfeminine-mystique post says:

Like, our stance towards exclusionary theology should not be "well actually if we look in the Bible we can see that it never actually forbids being gay," but instead "how fucking dare you presume to delimit God's love? What blasphemous arrogance could have possibly led you to where you are? When did you start worshipping your own image in place of the Divine?"
"The only clear line I draw these days is this: when my religion tries to come between me and my neighbor, I will choose my neighbor...Jesus never commanded me to love my religion."

Remembering President Carter as the first American president to celebrate Hanukkah at the White House. Representation and inclusion matter. A seat at the table is for everyone. Rest in peace and power, Mr. President.

Arlo Guthrie on the left, who is now 18, and his protective baby brother, October “Toby” Holden, named so because he can spot a phony at ten paces. Both rescues. This was Thanksgiving—Arlo was napping, and Toby was flirting with his grandma. They are both some flavor of pittie mix.
