To test Muse, I experimented with it nonstop for two weeks, giving over many aspects of my life to it. I had to trust Muse with my most personal data, which included connecting it to my bank accounts and email. Then I had it perform dozens of day-to-day tasks, including ordering my groceries, scheduling my meetings and setting my fantasy football lineups.

difficult to believe but yes! www.theguardian.com/media/2025/n...
Starting Saturday, the US’s biggest liberal-leaning network – which has been known as MSNBC since its launch in 1996 – will officially become known as MS Now. The somewhat forced acronym stands for My Source for News, Opinion and the World. The “MS” comes from the network’s original partnership with Microsoft back in the 1990s, which ended more than a decade ago. The network president, Rebecca Kutler, said last week that she felt “very strongly” about keeping the letters because of the history of the brand and because it’s how many people refer to the channel anyway.

which of these moments is your favorite "amazing--give you chills -- moment of unity"
weeks following the attacks, there was a surge in incidents of harassment and hate crimes against South Asians, Middle Easterners, and anyone thought to be "Middle Eastern-looking"—particularly Sikhs, because Sikh males usually wear turbans, which are stereotypically and erroneously associated with Muslims by many Americans. Balbir Singh Sodhi, a Sikh man, was one of the first victims of this backlash; he was shot dead on September 15 at the gas station he owned in Mesa, Arizona. Mark Anthony Stroman, a white supremacist, killed two men and injured a third in a shooting spree beginning September 15 in Dallas, Texas. His victims, including Bangladeshi American Rais Bhuiyan, were all targeted because they looked "of Muslim descent". His motive for the killings was revenge for the 9/11 attacks.[14] In New York City itself, the only death possibly related to post-9/11 hate violence officially recorded as a homicide was Henryk Siwiak, a Polish immigrant shot in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn on September 11. His family theorized he may have been the victim of a hate crime in the wake of the attacks, since he was wearing camouflage clothing, had dark hair and spoke imperfect, heavily accented English.[15] The case remains unsolved; police are open to the family's theory but have not classified the killing as a bias crime.[16]

In many cities there were reports of vandalism against mosques and other Islamic institutions, including some cases of arson.[17][18][19][20][21] In the year after the attack, anti-Muslim hate crimes jumped 1,600 percent.[22] The FBI and other government agencies arrested and deported Arabs and Arab Americans in higher numbers after the attacks than before, often with limited or insufficient evidence to connect them to purported terrorism.[23]

DEADLINE: Interesting. A.I. is clearly one of the big talking points in the business right now. Another is the Paramount Warner Bros merger. What’s your take on that whole dance?

SCHRADER: Well, the studio system is sort of dead…but for me it’s kind of like that scene in The End Of Oak Street when Ewan McGregor’s character comes across two dinosaurs fucking and he wants his wife to take a picture of him in front of them…That’s sort of how I feel about Paramount and Warner Brothers…

The US accounts for more than 20% of global tissue consumption despite having only 4% of the world’s population. The average American uses 141 rolls of toilet paper per year, making them No 1 for No 2s globally, just ahead of Germans, each using an average of 134 rolls annually.

my write-up is more about the fabelmans than i thought it would be lol
It’s not until later in the film, after they’ve survived an exceptional train-based action set piece, that she has a real confrontation with what this means. She’s standing in a warehouse with a replica of her childhood home behind her and breaks down, as if the only way to stop somebody who is going around doing The Fabelmans to everyone else is to do an even bigger The Fabelmans to them. She, rightly, feels violated and confused. She’s rocketed through the first chunk of her journey on the force of her empathetic powers and then bang: a brick wall. She knows everyone better than they know themselves and yet: do they know her better than she knows herself, too?

read @kithaggard.bsky.social's e.t. essay in our speilberg sci-fi series, in which the man is crowned as our nation's foremost child of divorce thisisanewsletter.substack.com/p/children-o...
Steven Spielberg, as I think we can all agree, is our nation’s foremost child of divorce. Even when he’s not dealing with this directly—as in E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, (improbably) War of the Worlds and, of course, The Fabelmans, which fictionalizes the Spielberg family rupture—it seems to creep into his projects at the margins, either a persistent anxiety or a worldview too baked-in to extricate. Many of his films seem to nod toward the fragility of the nuclear unit (The Sugarland Express), or to present suburbia, and the family in particular, as sinister in some way (Poltergeist, A.I.). Even Hook—the most obvious expression of Spielberg’s interest in (or perhaps obsession with) Peter Pan—is predicated on a family in undeniable crisis. If Close Encounters asks—perhaps obliquely—what impossible extremity would take a man from his wife and three children, E.T. asks what it’s like to be left.

i didn’t ask @philipchristman.bsky.social to think about how his essay would be the first in the series but i was quite pleased with how perfectly his opening paragraph set everything up! thisisanewsletter.substack.com/p/coaxed-not...
Every Steven Spielberg hater is alike, while every Spielberg defender defends him in their own way. In a crowd of twenty, hardly two of them will have the same favorites. One of them will harangue you about the surprising nuance of Munich; one of them will make some exhaustingly contrarian defense of Temple of Doom, the most divorced movie ever made; one of them will point at the sheer thematic and emotional Magnitude of the prestige ‘90s films as you would point at an elephant, wordlessly; one of them will explain why Lincoln isn’t, despite appearances, the quintessence of feckless Obama-era compromise-for-its-own-sake liberalism. I bet somebody somewhere even thinks The Post is a masterpiece.

starting tomorrow! subscribe so you don’t miss anything! thisisanewsletter.substack.com
Starting tomorrow! Over the next several weeks, we at This is a Newsletter LLC will be publishing a series of essays on the science fiction films of Steven Spielberg. Ever heard of him? This, of course, is leading up to his new film, Disclosure Day, coming out in early June. Just like with last year's PTA series, there'll be a couple a week and then you'll get a long dispatch with everyone's review of the new film. I'm very excited about this! Hopefully you are too!

okay - to be "fair" to huberman (lol), his actual quote explicitly isn't saying this! it is just the publicity email excerpt that makes it seem like it is what he's saying. we can just go back to, how in the world are you sending an email quoting huberman telling every woman to do something.
"Dr. Crawford makes it clear how to assess and optimize your reproductive and hormone health. The Fertility Formula is not only crucial for those who are planning to have children, it should be read by every woman."

very good sir. masterful gambit sir.
Trump claims Iran's president has asked US for a ceasefire
The US would only consider a ceasefire with Iran if the Hormuz strait opens, Donald Trump has declared on social media.

He said Iran had asked for a ceasefire, writing:

Iran’s New Regime President, much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE! We will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!! President DJT
It was not clear what Donald Trump meant by “Iran’s new regime president”, as there has been no recent change in that role. Masoud Pezeshkian remains the Iranian president, a role he has served since 2024.

abbreviated thoughts on “project hail mary” (more in the newsletter soon)
he spectacle works quite well. rocky sounds like a purring cat. gosling is the only man on earth who can get close to making goddard’s often putrid dialogue function. i laughed. i had a good time. huller nearly wrestles this thing into meaning something through sheer force of glower and she shines in the movie’s one genuinely audacious swing, her karaoke performance. ultimately, lord and miller are children’s filmmakers (quite good ones!) and andy weir writes kids books for adult men who pretend to understand theoretical physics and drew goddard is a zombie and the movie is hamstrung by those essential facts of its nature. but when they’re skidding near the atmosphere of a glowing green planet, well, it’s pretty fuckin cool.

The upcoming negotiation could last longer, as owners have become vocal about the necessity for a salary cap, as sports like the NFL, NBA and NHL use, in the wake of rampant spending by teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets.

Clark oversaw the negotiations for this current CBA alongside deputy director Bruce Meyer. Both are strongly opposed to a cap, which the union believes would not help competitive balance in the sport.

really dispiriting to see this call for book reviews from current affairs which outright argues that books are not in and of themselves worthy of attention! bad!
"It’s probably best not to pick a book on a niche discipline or debate, unless you’re confident that you can contextualize the subject matter in a relevant and engaging way for the uninitiated. Book reviews are among the trickiest pieces to write, because they require you to make readers interested in a book they might have no intention of reading. Best strategy: do not make it about the book, make it about the thing that the book is about, and use the book solely as a jumping-off point for an independently good essay about the thing."
