Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 07/10/2026But it is still exporting power right? Any chance this is shenanigans to delay getting the cfd price and instead get wholesale prices? 010
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Something like this is so clearly the right solution. But it comes up against the stupid promise to not raise income tax rates. 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 25/09/2026100% this, Heathrow is a planning mistake. But also John's original point: London doesn't need a big hub. It's by a long way the biggest air market in the world, even without all the transfer passengers. 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Often eg tax changes are effective from a set date _before_ the law has passed specifically to prevent the gaming of the rules that is clearly happening here. Dont see this being very different. But yes probably a bad idea. Changes the story from "reform is bought by crypto billionaires". 041
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Fine if that's what he's doing. But looks like he's rolling back on it quite a lot: www.theguardian.com/environment/...theguardian.comAndy Burnham moves to cut new EV sales targetsPossible cut from 80% down to as little as 50% could add millions of tonnes of CO2 to emissions and comes amid UK heatwaves 050
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 07/08/2026This is downstream of the problem that AI is designed to tell people what they want to hear to increase engagement. Which is never "sorry, you have no case" 030
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 06/08/2026I dunno. Onshore wind and solar wasnt officially banned by Cameron but they made it clear none would be approved and none were. This reads the same to me. "Nice new application with bar service you've got there, shame if something were to happen to it..." 010
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Sure but that's nothing new. The article itself says the fall is due to a fall in net migration. 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Why do we have to go from banning A/C to mandating it without even a pause at letting people / builders decide? What's necessary in central london is probably overkill in a highland cottage... 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 26/07/2026But what's even the point of the conspiracy? The deep state working to get Burnham as PM? 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 21/07/2026Due to Europe cracking down. Numbers well down into Europe for a while now so starting to feed through to numbers down from France to UK too. Shows that the solution is international. Can't just keep leaving organisations EU, ECHR, UN... until the utopia of taking back control magics a solution. 020
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 17/07/2026Not at all obvious. Issue is they don't really compliment each other. Renewables want flexible alternatives that can turn down when its windy / sunny and ramp up when it's not. IE hydro, batteries, (/gas) etc. Nuclear is terrible for that, very slow and expensive to ramp down and up. 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 07/07/2026As i understand it the "problem" with the bridge is that things are generally _better_ now it's car free. Local traffic improved, traffic on _other_ bridges down. Cycling up. Local businesses doing better. The opposite of induced demand. 110
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 06/07/2026That's different (bit also shouldn't have happened). He _was_ banned for next qualifying match, and bans from qualifying have sometimes not all rolled over to the actual world cup. No player since 62 has had a red in the world cup but not led to missing the next match www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footba...bbc.co.ukCristiano Ronaldo red card: Why has Fifa suspended World Cup ban?Has Fifa given Cristiano Ronaldo special treatment to get the star player to the 2026 World Cup finals, or have we seen this happen before? 0231
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 03/07/2026And its so weird that HS2 seems proud of it with press releases and the like. Sure it may be impressive engineering. But its so obviously a pointless waste of money to bury it for no reason the right emotion is surely embarrassment. 140
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 02/07/2026Quite. And as the piece says they are going after big business and "billionaires". Bernie Ecclestone got done for £650m and almost went to jail. 010
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 25/06/2026I do wonder what would have happened if 250 people in Uxbridge had voted different. Maybe Rishi wouldn't have gone full car brained and cancelled HS2, maybe Kier would have realised loud opposition sometimes needs to be faced down. Honestly think this by election was unusually consequential. 1131
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Yes that was stupid. But surely her real errors were not being political _enough_. 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 12/06/2026Think a foreshadowing of Starmer's failure as PM was him coming out as anti ULEZ for the Uxbridge by election. Burnham's role scrapping the Manchester one doesn't bode well... 140
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 08/06/2026Right, but the real impact might be future teenagers. A ban helps a _lot_ for parents of 10-14 year olds in resisting peer pressure to get a smart phone. Mine has pretty much accepted she's just getting a Nokia 3310 until she's much older 100
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 07/06/2026Also: grid connections. Lots of solar going up next to old coal power stations for that reason. 030
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 07/06/2026Its more expensive and harder to maintain. We've plenty of land just need to steamroller the nimbys. 110
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 02/06/2026Plus normally the person who stabbed somone runs away. They don't hang around to tell the police lies that will last all of a few minutes before the story falls apart and they get arrested. Mistakes clearly made but i can understand why the police at first may have taken it at face value. 060
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 28/05/2026Solar and wind complement each other pretty well (it's a lot windier in winter) 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 21/05/2026Don't think anyone this winter is going to be deciding between heating and e̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ cinema 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 21/05/2026Same thing with going along with HS2 sabotage. Fine revisit the way into Manchester but to not do phase 2a to crewe is insane. 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 21/05/2026It was the insanity of going along with the NI cut. "We wont raise taxes" Fine. Taxes lowered as an unaffordable bung. "We will also go along with this. We thought taxes were right last week. And now this week we think taxes are still right now they are cut further and there's no money for anything" 100
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 21/05/2026Quite. Compare Major / Clarke post 92 (yes were going to lose the next election but lets at least try to run the country well) to Sunak /Hunts deliberate sabotage... 140
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 20/05/2026Yup. Very much "we've tried nothing and are out ideas" vibes... 010
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 20/05/2026To be fair asia is in a differnet situation with actual shortages. In the uk wfh mandate would probably cause covid ptsd and massive pushback. Much rather there was a bigger push to accelerate electrification and renewables. 100
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 14/05/2026No no no, the money was for his personal security so this must be to house a crack SAS team to intercept any thrown milkshakes rather his own personal enrichment. 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 13/05/2026That chart is shocking. Particularly for the older teenagers. But many of the 11 tear olds that cant leave their home alone may just not have a yard. 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 06/05/2026Great but doesn't fix the problem (WCML capacity) until we're all dead. Which i guess is another solution. 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 06/05/2026Could have been the growth agenda story they are looking for. But instead they go all in on the expensive, likely unbuildable (and very southern) Heathrow third runway. Make it make sense... 140
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 06/05/2026HS2 phase 2a (up to crewe) fixed most of the capacity issues for a piddling £7bn and was good to go. The fact that Labour didn't reinstate at least this part, and allowed the compulsory purchase powers for it to lapse is totally baffling. "The Tories are awful but we'll continue their work" 180
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 06/05/2026Honestly im still furious at Sunaks sabotage of HS2. But completely baffled at Reeves going along with it and even doubling down... 1241
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 03/05/2026Well good news is they are being defensive about it. They may be starting to realise that a few more bat tunnels and fish discos and they'll risk getting abolished... 100

Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 24/04/2026Its one thing to have that when you can shout about Westminster shortchanging your constituents. Quite another when you're in charge and have to decide which people to annoy. Burnham previously said "bond markets" Lizz Truss mk 2 isn't a winning strategy. 100
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 21/04/2026He's thinking the biogas investments he made won't pay off if everyone gets a heat pump. 080
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 14/04/2026Not even that. Just watch it on fast forward! The idea that the police are sitting there for 6 hours watching cctv on normal speed rather than 32x or something that we can all do at home is insane... 000
Dan K @thereal-dk.bsky.social · 07/04/2026We've had over a decade of these cars now and (apart from early leafs) the batteries are fine. Chargers have been built out. There really isn't a reason not to buy an ICE car now apart from fear of change. Surprised a YIMBY / abundance guy doesn't see it that way... 010
