Fiona Duncan, Independent Strategic Advisor - the promise, had a slightly different catch up with Orkney Islands Council, after her flight was unable to land. She will rearrange her visit, so she can meet people with the people the promise was made to.

The Oversight Board’s Report FOUR found that there are individuals, teams, & organisations showing every day that progress to keep the promise is possible. But they also report more must be done to ensure Scotland has enough skilled people with the time and support required to do their jobs well.⬇️

The Oversight Board for the promise have published their fourth report. They found that for too many, change to keep the promise has already come too slowly. But they also report that the promise remains Scotland’s clearest opportunity to turn commitment into real change in people’s life.⬇️

Statement from Fraser McKinlay, chief executive of The Promise Scotland, saying: “We welcome the publication of the Oversight Board for the promise’s latest report, which sets out the need for greater urgency in the delivery of the promise. There has been significant progress made in the last six years, but too much of what has been agreed and planned is not yet being experienced consistently. There must be action from those with the responsibility, power and resources to make change happen."

We welcome the specific commitments included in the 2026 to 2031 Programme for Government to keep the promise especially the emphasis on strengthening whole family support, eradicating child poverty, and implementing the Children’s (Care, Care Experience & Services Planning) (Scotland) Act.
