Psychological trauma is every bit as common, as real and impactful as a physical injury. Stigmatizing those who've experienced it is like shaming someone for having a broken bone or a chronic illness. So if you're experiencing trauma, remember what you're experiencing is common, not rare.

It's natural to fear changes in our lives. We're wired to seek consistency, so of course impending changes can feel scary. But if we can teach ourselves to regard the changes in our lives as natural, we can now work with them rather than fight futilely against them. youtu.be/NF3MnoeSFeU?...

Emotions are not just psychological phenomena, they are biological. We FEEL them in our physical bodies, our bodies have measurable physical responses to strong emotions. To keep our bodies healthy, we must learn to regulate our emotions. The Phoenix Network was created to help you along this path.

"Know thy self" - Socrates Socrates knew that the more we can identify the root causes of our thinking patterns, the better we can understand ourselves and thereby adjust how we function in the world. This is why he put so much emphasis on self-knowledge. Mindfulness is one of our greatest tools.

Most people will experience either divorce, loss of a loved one, chronic depression or loneliness, addiction or some form of abuse in their lifetime. These issues are common, so let's drop the feelings of shame, fear and inadequacy, crush this stupid social stigma and start helping each other.

Everyone has an inner narrative, a mental dialogue we keep having with ourselves. How often do you simply observe your own inner dialogue? You may be surprised by how much time you spend telling yourself negative stories. Once you realize this, you can begin to change your narrative.

If your DNA was slightly different, if you lived in a different era or had different experiences growing up, you'd effectively have a different personality. Why that's relevant to you now, today, is to show that your current personality is just one of many POSSIBLE personalities you could have had.

Admitting you need help shows STRENGTH of character, not weakness. Most people keep it all inside, because they're afraid of what others would think. To boldly declare to yourself and others that you need help is to overcome this fear.

"Mindfulness" practice may seem like Eastern mysticism, but it's actually a very practical skill to learn. Being mindful allows us to learn objectivity, and being able to see objectively allows us to see our habitual patterns. Once these patterns are revealed, we now have a chance of changing them.

We know our physical health requires constant attention, but we don’t give nearly as much attention to our mental health. We fill it with junk, we’re lazy with it, we’re careless with it. We need to focus on our brain health in the same way we focus on our physical health.

Being in the now is about being aware of as much as you can in the moment, which also means awareness of what’s going on inside of you. How each part of your body feels, what thoughts are traveling through your head, etc. You don’t have to try to change anything, just be aware of what’s happening.

There's your inner voice, and the outer voices of the world. If your inner voice is quiet and the outer loud, eventually the inner will listen to the outer and that becomes your Reality. Conversely, if you strengthen the inner narrative, the outer begins to listen and follow.

Your body reinforces your feelings. Thoughts create feelings. Positive thoughts release chemicals that make you feel even more positive, negative thoughts do the same. Understanding this can empower you with much more control of how you feel and think on a daily basis.
