Sally is the sidekick that grew into the mantle, Dick the one that outgrew his mentors shadow. The story potential, both separate and together was incredible. That we never got a buddy cop series featuring them is the saddest part. (See Waid's Flash+ Nightwing special)

Hal coming back, as well as it was done, was the start of a bad decisions. Barry returning took far more from DC than it gave. Dick Grayson is the heart of DC. Fans love him & every single character respects him. He's the sidekick that grew up and became his own man How was that not understood?

I think Didio's biggest failing was not getting how invested the audience was in the post-Crisis project and legacy heroes like Wally West and Dick Grayson.

Thinking about this more. You're right. He had a good sense of those realms. Especially on the fringe of continuity. I likely would have been all over that corner of DC.

Excellent observation. For all the criticism of him, I have to say, I worked on a show where he sat down for an hour long interview and his enthusiasm for the medium was genuine. I wasn't there (I was the editor) but I am confident he truly wanted the best for both DC and the medium as a whole.

Prior to this era, his/Didio's Doom Patrol with Matthew Clark was excellent. I bought it for the JM DeMatties/Giffen back up, but actually enjoyed the main story more. More along these lines, I know Giffen did OMAC round this time. Anything else I should know about?

Slept on this at the time, but I'm digging this. This is the 3rd series by Giffen and Didio I've read and liked. Granted, I already liked Giffen's writing but they seemed well matched.

Read a Dr Solar comic last night that had a rather disturbing "woman is raped for hours" sequence. Don't think it helped that narrative, so not sure why it was there. (The bad guy was already established as a very bad guy) Writers, don't do that.

Never even heard of this before, but it's JM DeMatteis part of the "Berger books" imprint. He's one of the best writers on the planet and Karen Beeger has got a killer track record so looking forward to this in one!
